Lunchtime and it was roasting. The little patio area at the rear of the pub was very nice with lots of pot plants. The interior of the pub is really nice. The kind of pub to find yourself in of a dark evening.

It was very busy for late on a Saturday night but I think that was because it was someone's birthday.

This pub is beginning to grow on me. It was friendly and warm and the books on the ledge around the wall make it feel very informal

Quite busy for a Saturday afternoon I thought but then it did have a big real fire in one room and the final scores on the TV in the next.

After a couple of JHBs from Canterbury Beer shop and half a forgettable London Pride from the Anchor in Wingham.

Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood3.70AcceptableA bit off - wouldn't have wanted more than a half!
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%)3.40UndrinkableUndrinkable. Left it after one sip. Makes me wonder how this beer ever came second best in the Champion Beer of Britain.

On a cold night and after a hot curry it was good to sit down in a cosy pub and that's exactly what this is. It reminded me of a classy pub from a Dickens novel - plenty of dark mahogany and deep red upholstery.

Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood3.70AcceptableNothing special. Not my favourite beer at the best of times but if the choice is between it and GK-IPA it wins

Large old coaching house in Canterbury Road. Situated on the corner of the road (visit Wingham and you'll see what this means). Had past fame as it was used in some of the filming of the Pressburger & Powell 1944 film A Canterbury Tale where it was designated as The Hand of Glory.

We have visited this pub 7 times, seen 2 different beers and tried both.
