I’ve been to see the London v Antrim GAA match at the Emerald Grounds in Ruislip, and with a friend set of on an impromptu little crawl of Middlesex GBG pubs. This pub is very busy on Saturday afternoon. Rather foody inside, so we sat on the terrace despite the blustery conditions.

The Old Orchard is a large pub, in spacious grounds with a wonderful, rural outlook across the Grand Union Canal and the Colne Valley – yet just off London bus routes 331 and U9. Formerly a country house, it became a restaurant in the 1970s, then becoming a rather up-market pub when acquired by Brunning & Price in around 2010. A good feature is the paved terrace at the front of the pub, with tables taking full advantage of the wide views. There is also a large, lawned garden.
