Afternoon and an oasis in a desert of rushing shoppers. I had been told in advance we were going to the Prussia but no web searches found the name - maybe if the web had existed in 1914!

A pleasant retreat from a very busy Stratford, we enjoyed a quiet pint before venturing out to the hectic outside world for a bus to Whitechapel.

A new brewery for me, a pleasant drinkable amber brown best bitter.

A lunchtime visit to the pub, we used the saloon bar to the rear, and looked at the window where the Prince of Prussia has been re-etched when the pub changed its name during World War 1.

This pub has just changed hands and was undergoing an external refurbishment. I met here for a couple of early pints with a group of friends before popping outside to see the Olympic Flame wobble by.

This was actually pretty good and quite tasty, helped by being in very good condition.
The pub is found in Stratford, Greater London, E15 4BQ.
This pub was established before 1765 as the King of Prussia, hastily changing its name to King Edward VII in 1914 with the outbreak of World War One looming (but still widely referred to as the ‘Prussia’ by locals). Once one of at least a dozen pubs along Stratford Broadway, it is now one of just two survivors. But it has survived well, with three separate rooms and a tiled corridor, a small garden at the rear and a few pavement tables. A Charrington’s Brewery house in its day, it is now free of tie and also has a good reputation for its food. 4 handpumps in front bar and 8 in the rear bar but not all in use at any one time.
We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 6 different beers and tried 4 of them.
