Late afternoon visit.
BrewDog (Tower Hill) - Hello My Name is POG. | 7.50 | | From a keg. A strong, soured IPA. Very fruity indeed. Acidic. |
BrewDog - The Physics | 5.00 | Not Tried | Available from cask (I eventually noticed). |

I popped in here just for one, for a change of scene. But first I found they had a Buxton Brewery showcase on, and then I bumped into a friend; so I lingered. Shockingly high prices prevented me from going further down the list.
Buxton - Original Double Vanilla Ice Cream IPA | 8.00 | | Smooth from key-keg. A fantastic beer. Gorgeous. Somehow tastes like a hoppy IPA and like a vanilla ice cream all at the same time. Omnipollo are listed as collaborators, but I feel that Mr Whippy must have had a hand in it too. |
BrewDog - Jackhammer (keg) | 7.40 | | Keg. A crisp, clean, golden, strong, fizzy IPA. Rather muted hop tastes. |
Buxton - Enkel | 4.70 | | From key-keg I think. Rather odd, didn’t know what to make of it. Thin and pale. Not even sure what it is. |

Mid-evening and not overcrowded. I blew my entire budget on a two-thirds measure of one strong beer.
BrewDog - Pump Action Poet | 7.50 | | From keg or key-keg – I cannot always tell the difference. Yellow/gold in colour. A strong and exceptionally fruity IPA that has been boosted by the addition of fruit juice. Ingredients include Citra, Amarillo, Mosaic, Apricot and Peach. |

I needed something full-flavoured after a nasty pint at a pub nearby, so squeezed in here for a quick one.
BrewDog - Electric India | 5.20 | | On old-style keg dispense; chilled and fizzed. A yellow/gold Wheat Beer in the German style with some banana flavours. |

I came here mid-evening on a Monday, thinking it might be a quiet time. It wasn’t. Perhaps this pub does not have quiet times.
BrewDog - Brixton Porter | 5.00 | | Black Porter with bitter and chocolate tastes. But to an extent spoiled by over-carbonation. |

I should really come here more often as the beer selection is excellent. Pricey though.
BrewDog - Libertine Black IPA (keg) | 7.00 | | On keg dispense. One of the best examples of a Black IPA around in my opinion. A little too much CO2 in this example. |
8 wired - Fresh HopWired | 7.30 | | On keg dispense, but untroubled by carbonation. My first green hop beer of the season – except this is cheating as this beer has come all the way from New Zealand (so perhaps not so ‘fresh’). Amber-coloured. Unexpectedly sticky, caramel malt flavours, with relatively subtle hopping and lots of alcohol. Not what I was expecting, but nice. |

I’ve decided that there is no point moping about the loss of Mason & Taylor, and that it’s time to celebrate the fact that such an innovative (if weirdly cask-averse) brewery as BrewDog have opened an East End outlet. Ed Mason (Five Points Brewery) and Taylor (Snooty Fox pub) certainly seem to have moved on successfully. No cask beers, so I just list the two keg beers I drank.
BrewDog - Libertine Black IPA (keg) | 7.00 | | A thick, smooth Black IPA. Negligible intrusion from carbonation. Full of Simcoe hop flavours. I thought momentarily about 5 stars. |
BrewDog - IPA is Dead - El Dorado (keg) | 6.70 | | Amber-coloured, appears to be unfiltered. Neither carbonation nor chilling are extreme. Despite the name, this appears to be a US-style IPA, featuring the El Dorado hop variety. A serious beer. |

A ‘Tap Takeover’ by Hackney Brewery, with a ‘Meet the Brewer’ session to come later in the evening. Also, the official launch of Hackney’s new red ale. Nice bar, but I do find table service a bit disconcerting in an English pub.
Hackney - Golden Ale | 4.00 | | This beer has developed really nicely after a few tweaks. Golden, full-bodied and well hoped (Cascade and Saaz hops at least I think). |
Hackney - Irish Red | 4.40 | | Red brown in colour. Initially quite sweet, developing into tartness. Bitter finish from Goldings hops. |
Hackney - Best Bitter | 4.40 | | Amber in colour. Very bitter and slightly metallic, but thess flavours may have been emphasised because I drank it immediately after the Irish Red. |
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Big MoFo Stout | 10.50 | Not Tried | Available on keg. |
