Well packed still at 11pm. Service slow though with a seeming imbalance in personnel between the two bars. Very mucky all around outside the pub and environs.

Hall & Woodhouse (see and use Badger entries) - Old Harry's Pale Sail4.50Not TriedNo brewing provenance on the pump clip which was a plastic plaque attached to a black backboard by a bulldog clip, obviously some sort of brewery house style for seasonals

Late evening visit.

Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Glorious Game3.80ExcellentWith 3 Slovenian hops. £4.40 pp is excessive for such low abv

Evening. Ambience ruined by perfume of vinegared traditional tourist trap fish and chips. I say caffs for grub and pubs for beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - First Call4.00Good
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - King & Barnes Sussex3.50Not TriedNo go as deceptive at point of sale with not a jot of true Blandford Forum provenance. The legal rules need to be changed to outlaw this

Two visits either side of an invite into the Commons (I'd like to say for lobbying about real ale - but it was actually a pensions award presentation - only alcolhol can see one through that). Busy with tourists at 6, less busy and a good local London feel at 8:30. Great decor - I love the ceiling, about 30 foot above, and the etched mirrors.

A cheeky lunchtime pint. This pub and myself have something in common; we are both named after something that is named after the Biblical martyr Saint Stephen. In the pub’s case it is named after St Stephen’s Tower, just over the road. In my case, I am named after St Stephen’s Church in Lewisham (keep that last bit to yourselves, it’s not widely known).

The pub is found in Westminster, Central London, SW1A 2JR.

An impressive pub with a prime location on Parliamentary land in the shadow of Big Ben, outside the Palace of Westminster and above Westminster tube station. It was first established in 1750 as the Swan Hotel and at that time it was a riverside pub. Demolished in 1868 during the construction of Westminster station and rebuilt on its present site. It was rebuilt again in 1886 and at this time renamed the St Stephen’s Tavern. The pub later merged with the former Queen’s Head which had stood next door and the separate origin of the two bars can be seen in the external brickwork. The pub closed down during the 1980s, but was revived by Hall & Woodhouse in 2003. Today there are separate public and saloon bars, with many historic features, plus a mezzanine dining area. 4 handpumps on each of the 2 bar counters.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 10 different beers and tried 5 of them.
