A missed connection and a delay to the next train gave us a good reason to come here. Delayed opening as well with the pub opening at 10:45 insread of the advertised 09:00.

Early evening, cancelled train lead to a lucky find. Expected a dreary waiting room but delighted to find 7 handpumps shouting at me to try their local wares. Exuberant and enthusiastic barmaid even at just before closing time.

The pub is found in Carlisle, Cumbria, CA1 1QZ.
On Platform 4 of Carlisle railway station, turn left inside the main entrance. Named after the distance local folk insist Carlisle is from London. High vaulted ceilinged waiting room equipped with a most welcoming privately run bar sporting 7 handpumps and selling a range of almost exclusively local real ales and a cider too. Note mid-evening closing times are very early. Closed in early November 2023 with failure to renew the lease.
