4th visit of the Hitchin outing: A cross between a sports bar and micropub and just around the corner from the Half Moon pub. Lots of high seating to be had as not as full as the other two pubs just visited and with five real ales on and available from a second bar towards the rear and not the first one you are greeted by as you come in. Friendly prompt service for this early evening visit.

| Abbeydale - Salvation - Dark Chocolate & Raspberry Stout | 4.80 | | Good head and lasting lacing on this chocolate and raspberry milk stout from independent, employee-owned Abbeydale Brewery based in Sheffield and first set up in 1996. A very raspberry-infused first hit. A dry fruited bitterness rising with earthy, herbal and slightly spicy notes from its exclusive US Willamette mild aroma hop, named after the Willamette River and its surrounding valley in northwest Oregon, ensuring the overall beer's bitterness remains low, allowing the sweet malts and tart raspberry to take centre stage. A sweet milk chocolate and biscuity, roasted maltiness prevailing and aided by its real cacao nibs, raspberry flavouring and a roasted malt base. Many a sharp, tart burst of raspberry to the fore before sliding downwards. Served in good nick but too sweet for my taste buds. |

Late afternoon. I’d cycled 40 miles here and was ready for a pint. Good chat with the guv, friendly barman. A very welcoming establishment.

Town centre pub in Bridge Street. Small pavement frontage. Long and thin with a garden at the rear. A sports bar but with a feel of a micropub at the front! GBG entry (2023+).
