Visits Details

12 Apr 2025 (Hogan Sampling)
Not overly busy for my mid-afternoon visit and to meet up with two others on the same "cramble" - a cross between a ramble and a crawl. Prompt, friendly service and a choice of 3 real ales on when I got here and with a 4th one coming on imminently. We were given a taster of this just as soon as it was on. Last visited in 2020 as I recall. I walked to it from Purley Oaks railway station as on last visit and the others got a bus part of the way to it.

Northdown - Pale Ale Mary4.00ExcellentHad a taster of this pale ale from the Northdown microbrewery just outside Margate in Kent, and which was brought to us voluntarily by the owner to sample as fresh on. Superb head and lacing was presented on this and lasting. A fruity and citrusy first hit. A dry hoppiness in the mouthfeel followed. A slight sourness in the bitter taste came to the fore and no doubt from the odd grapefruit involved in its making. A bitterish aftertaste lived on. Very thirst-quenching.
Brentwood - Marillac4.00GoodGood head and lacing on this pale ale from Brentwood Brewing in Essex. A dry and hoppy first hit. Holding its head and lacing well. A hoppy dryness came to the fore in the mouthfeel and also lasted well into the aftertaste.
Elephant School (sub-brand of Brentwood) - Wanna Coffee? - Espresso Stout4.50Not Tried
