I arrived at about 14:30 to find the main bar closed, and had a pint in the hotel lounge. The lady behind the counter informed me that the traditional unspoilt bar would open at 15:00 so I had a pint while I waited, and then some more in the bar.

Surprisingly quiet. Top marks to the barman who topped up the glass without asking.

| Deeside - Nechtan | 4.10 | | Slightly darker than usual. With none of the citrus hop flavour expected from Nechtan the beer seemed thin. Unique oval pump clip has been re-designed into an anonymous item. Disappointing, maybe should have scored it 2*. |

The pub is found in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, AB31 5SR.
Busy hotel on Banchory's main street. Fabulous Victorian public bar, comfortable lounge and beer garden at the back. Committed to real ale with usually three on at a time. Closed in late winter 2022/2023. Re-opened in spring 2024 and operated by the owners of the nearby Burnett Arms Hotel.
