I last visited Maredsous Abbey 15 years ago, but the bar/cafe and its rather gross commercialism is instantly recognisable. Colin and I had a look at the abbey church and then chose a ‘Palet Degustation’ each – this gave us three smallish glasses of beer from the kegs and a bowl of abbey cheese.

Located at Maredsous Abbey, a functioning Benedictine Abbey, "Centre d'Accueil" translates as Reception Centre, and the function of this establishment goes slightly beyond being a bar, also providing a shop for abbey produce (especially cheese) and an information office. The bar is very large, extending to two big rooms in this modern building. There is also a very extensive beer garden to one side and courtyard seating at the front. Maredsous Abbey beers are produced under licence by Duvel Moortgat and have been produced since 1963.
We have visited this pub once, seen 3 different beers and tried them all.
