14 Nov 2017 (ChrisE)
Time for a relaxing three glasses before heading towards Midi for a train home. I have only reported on the cask ale that I drank.
Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (a.k.a. Brasserie BFM) - Abbaye de Saint Bon Chien | 11.00 | | Bier de Garde, somewhat sour but with some sweetness, amber coloured cask ale served through handpump. |
28 Jun 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Just a brief visit on the way to the railway station.
Brasserie de Cazeau - Tournay Noire | 7.60 | | A very dark brown Stout. Strong, with roasted barley flavours and a trace of sweetness in the long finish. |
25 Aug 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Late-afternoon visit. It’s a very hot day and all the customers are sitting outside at the front.
Les 3 Fourquets - Lupulus Blonde | 8.50 | | |
Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (a.k.a. Brasserie BFM) - Saison No. 225 Rhubarb | 6.00 | | A very tart, cloudy, fruity Saison from Switzerland. |
06 Jul 2016 (Stephen Harris)
There is time to relax in here after my meetings and before boarding the Eurostar to London.
Kerkom - Hop Verdomme IPA | 7.00 | | Amber in colour and exceptionally hoppy for a Belgian beer. |
Slaghmuylder - Witcap Stimulo | 6.00 | | This used to be one of my favourite Belgian beers, although I haven’t drunk it for a long time. Pale, hazy, dry, a bit lemony. |
02 Feb 2016 (Stephen Harris)
I’m booked on the late Eurostar back to London tonight, so it gives the opportunity for an hour in here after my business and before heading to the station. Busy; security worries do not seem to be stopping people from going out in central Brussels.
La Senne - Mont Saleve Double Saison | 8.00 | | Golden in colour. A smooth, hoppy saison with relatively subdued spicy or sour notes and a subtle fruitiness. |
Hopfenstark - Saison Station 55 | 6.50 | | A hazy, golden, spicy, slightly sour, yeasty, full-on saison (from Canada). |
20 Nov 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Brussels is just about to enter security lockdown, but it’s all calm in here for a couple of very decent beers before heading to the Eurostar terminal.
La Senne - Chocolate Stout | 5.00 | | Fresh, smooth, dark, bitter and chocolaty. |
Bastogne - Pale Ale Fresh Hop | 6.00 | | Golden and just a little hazy. Fresh and slightly lemony hop tastes. |
17 Feb 2013 (Stephen Harris)
We enjoyed a good late afternoon beer selection here, plus our second cheese and meat platter of the day, before heading off for the Eurostar. On the strength of three visits in the last two years, this is my current favourite Brussels pub.
Brasserie de Cazeau - Tournay Hop Harvest | 4.00 | | By keg dispense. A very pale gold colour. Smell, taste and name all suggest a green hop beer, although time of year suggests otherwise. Whatever, it is a very hoppy pint. |
Birrificio Toccalmatto - Grooving Hop | 4.30 | | By keg dispense. Pale golden/yellow in colour. This Italian beer has a big, dry-hop aroma, backed up by a big, yummy hop taste. A bit lacking in malt body though. |
Esquelbecq - Fievre de Cacao | 6.50 | | [Esquelbecq is more correctly called Brasserie Thiriez]. By keg dispense. Very dark, almost black, and broadly in the Stout style. Smells and tastes very much of chocolate/cocoa powder. |
