Evening visit. Had noticed this place had reopened yesterday when I saw lights on from a Night Bus and visited to suss out the changes. Quite a transformation, perhaps towards a degree of gentrification but definitely welcoming a wider community than in its most recent incarnation. Let's hope the real ale range can become more adventurous. Good chat with the Guv who imparted a lot of information of where he hopes to take the place.

Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80AcceptableClearly not a fast mover, OK but not giving inspiration

I used to love places like this – a small live music room with black-painted walls and a sticky floor alongside a tatty but friendly bar. Not many like this left now though. No sign of any Monkey Chews beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
White Horse - Luna - Dark Moon4.90AcceptableLuna seems to be a ‘brew your own’ project based at Oxfordshire’s White Horse Brewery. This was a soft, brown beer with malt flavours dominant.
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr4.40Not Tried

Evening. Have probably passed this place on the bus 42,000 times but this was the time to visit. Unusual but friendly. A couple of other guest beers had sold out over the weekend.

The pub is found in Peckham, Greater London, SE14 2PA.

An imposing corner house in Queens Road, once owned by Truman's. Under threat after a period of closure following the death of the elderly owners but re-opened in 2014. Famous for its idiosyncratic cave-like inside with artefacts and curios everywhere. A performance room had a stage for regular live music. Allegedly for a while home of the Monkey Chews Brewery which was installed in 2015. Closed in January 2018 after leasehold purchase by Chapman & Winney. On line petition to retain this as a live music venue. Reopened April 2018 with a significant transformation with the stage removed and artefacts gone. Windows unblocked and given an airy contemporary makeover. There are free to use table and electronic machine games. 2 handpumps. Closed once more in October 2019 and future uncertain after various planning permissions sought.

We have visited this pub 3 times, seen 5 different beers and tried 3 of them.
