Visits Details
07 Aug 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit after bus route confusion. Warned would be closing early but with plenty of time given to drink up.
Moor - Nor'Hop | 4.10 | | Taster measure |
Squawk - Pavo - Pale Ale | 3.80 | | Nicely rounded taste |
Anspach & Hobday - The Patersbier | 4.10 | | First time I have seen this on cask. Great authentic Belgian Pale Ale |
10 Aug 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until 11pm close. In my view a sea change in beer quality now it is served from a temperature controlled same level cellar room through wall mounted taps. Now has a rear standing room drinking area, 2 toilets and a garden, all great features.
Siren Craft - Liquid Mistress Red IPA | 5.80 | | 4½* The most complex tasting version of this beer I have had, one to savour |
Brew Buddies - Wokka | 4.80 | | Dry tasting APA |
Bad Seed - Hustler | 4.40 | | Faint hint of citrus but not enough to ruin it |
17 May 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until 11pm close on a drizzly murky night. The enthusiasm and knowledge of the licensees shows through. Pity about the constant recorded music, else it would be a classic Micropub.
Harbour - Daymer Extra Pale | 3.80 | | The only cask ale on sale tonight. In lively condition |
Kernel (The Kernel) - Pale Ale - Amarillo | 5.30 | | On KeyKeg dispense. More than £2 more per pint than the cask ales, lots of flavour but that tell-tale burp tells of trapped additional carbonation |
11 Jun 2016 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening. No one in on this balmy night when I arrived perhaps because Euros football was on TV. If only they did not play loud music here it would tick all Micropub Association boxes. A Micropub in all but noise.
Cloudwater - Session IPA | 4.80 | | Another beer bordering on being lemon juice. I'd like them all badged with a big warning sign "Tastes like lemon juice" |
Bristol Beer Factory - Sorachi | 4.70 | | Very fruity but as flat as the proverbial pancake which is far less appealing. A problem with gravity dispense, might have been worth them trying "drop pouring" from a height to try to give some head and albeit short lived carbonation. If beer served flat like this easy to see how customers might migrate to the keg beers here |
Track - Karamea | 4.20 | Not Tried | Cask too tilted for me to risk it |
22 Sep 2015 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening. Disappointingly no cask ale available after "a busy weekend". I tried a cask cider but it would have benefited from being cooler, the box sitting on the counter top. I like this place and it would be a Micropub but for the constant amplified music playing which means it does not meet the tenets and ethics of that movement in full.
31 Jan 2015 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit having been given a tip earlier in the day that this might be a Micropub. Friendly keen owners. Would have liked the option of a straight glass but none available here. Ticks almost every Micropub box but with loud amplified music making conversation difficult it is disqualified by not shunning all forms of electronic entertainment - a key value of the Micropub Association definition.
Weird Beard - Black Perle | 3.80 | | Apparently delivered with 4.3% on the clip but 3.8% on the cask |
Hop Stuff - A.P.A. (Arsenal Pale Ale) | 3.80 | | Almost poor as it was very hazy and did not have the condition I expect from Hop Stuff |
Moor - Raw | 4.30 | Not Tried | Ran out |
