Early evening - three or four people of indeterminate gender in the bar - a friendly welcome. The barman advised me that this was a gay bar but confirmed that heterosexuals were welcome. The nearest to beer was Fosters - I chose a half of Strongbow Fruity, it was very sweet. Swapped stories with the barman - I told him it was one of the first pubs my mum and dad "parked" me in with a packet of crisps and a Vimto - he told me he does a regular turn as a drag act here at weekends.
I feel that The English pub will continue to thrive with the diversity it can still offer.

About the Limes Lounge
The pub is found in Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2PN.
A gay bar and nightclub in Rosemary Lane - no real ales. Previously the Blind Dog and before that a traditional back-street pub - The Cardinals Cap. In the 1960s this was also a pub of distinction - it was close to the old Marlowe Theatre and was festooned with "luvvie" memorabilia. Despite being a small, back street boozer the landlord, Charlie I think, was always kitted out in a dinner jacket and bow tie - he was big and completely bald as I recall.
