Late afternoon busy in the right hand bar with a family group and young children. Thanks to the huge size of the place noise don't stand a chance of permeating the quieter left side bar where I enjoyed my beers in peace.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | | Lively so an extended wait for the patient apologetic barmaid to allow it to settle enough to obtain a full pint. |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | | Slightly cloying and syrupy. |

Late afternoon just a few others in with soft background music playing made for a relaxed atmosphere. The young barman was keen and enthusiastic regarding the beer scene and more importantly - cared. Top marks!
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | | Rather lively yet didn't detract from the expected TT flavours. |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20
People's Captain (contract brewed but brewer never named) - Local Hero | 4.20 | Not Tried | An obvious first choice yet well before it reached my parched throat the barman realised it was undrinkable and apologised profusely! |

Sunday afternoon emergency pint Busy with carvery, one or two drinkers .Pleasant enough atmosphere but more ' eaterie ' than pub affect
Banks's - Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold | 4.20 | | Golden honey colour, nice persistent thin head, not much aroma, strong grapefruit and peach apricot taste , long aftertaste quite bitter .better than expected |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried

First stop on a tour of pubs that I rarely visit. Service was delayed a bit as the post-mix needed changing for somebody's drink and the Young's ran out whilst my drink was being poured. I had one drawn from a new cask in the cellar but unfortunately I had to rush it in order to catch the next bus. I got the feeling that this pub has good potential and I plan to visit again.
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood | 3.70
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | Not Tried

Not been here for some years. The place hadn't changed much but we had a good value meal with pleasant service. Only one real ale on.

Visited with friends at lunchtime following a recommendation for the food. Was not disappointed and had splendid lamb chops and a good sized gammon among the dishes tried. It seemed fairly quiet. Was disappointed to find only one Real Ale available which was Green King IPA. London Pride was not available that day and apparently the third pump for a guest beer was only used in the summer.
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | | It went down well |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | Was not available that day |
