This pub was a great favourite of the local CAMRA branch in the ‘80s and ‘90s and I have attended (and indeed chaired) many a meeting here in the past. But this is probably my first visit in ten years. Pleasant, although they could have done with a second person behind the bar. Nice to see an all-London cask beer range, albeit an all-west London one.

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 9LY.

This pub was built in 1860 at a cost of £1,953, at a time when the ‘approach’ to Victoria Park was being developed. It was an ornate building in Italianate style, matching the new villas built along the road. Historically it was tied to the Barclay Perkins brewery of south London. Unfortunately the pub took a severe pasting in a 1942 German bombing raid and was largely rebuilt in the much plainer style we see today. Although all knocked through into one bar these days, there are distinct front, side and rear sections. There is also a large patio seating area at the front – pleasant on this quiet street. Food is served and there is an art gallery upstairs. There are five handpumps on the bar counter.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 7 different beers and tried 2 of them.
