Best beer and my favourite pub of an evening’s exploration in York. Possibly the busiest too, with live jazz drawing a local crowd.

The pub is found in York, North Yorkshire, YO1 7EN.
An ancient (1640), Grade II*-listed building converted to pub use from a former restaurant in November 2015. Divided into several drinking areas over three floors, the small bar at the very front has an exceptionally high bar counter.
We have visited this pub once, seen 8 different beers and tried 2 of them.
