The Gaffel am Dom is located in the traditional Deichmannhaus. Thanks to its listed, imposing façade, it is one of the most famous buildings in the city. Eponym of the neoclassical house was Wilhelm Ludwig Deichmann. The Lutheran was an apprentice to the Catholic Abraham Schaaffhausen in 1818, married his daughter and led the bank of the same name until the great crisis of 1848. After a few years, Deichmann moved to his own bank "Deichmann & Co." on the Trankgasse (which from then on was called Deichmannhaus ) and co-founded the Deutsche Bank in 1870. From 1827 to 1860, Cologne's first museum was also the Wallrafianum, predecessor of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum and other museums in Cologne.
