3rd visit of the outing to Maidenhead and its environs: Met up mid-afternoon with a visiting branch of CAMRA and busy with locals. Prompt friendly service and heard from one of them that this community-run pub will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this September and so no doubt secured in the run-up to buying it in 2017. Four real ales to choose from and from Rebellion in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and Stardust Brewery, an independent, family-owned craft microbrewery located in White Waltham, near and south-west of Maidenhead, Berkshire. Established in 2016, the brewery focuses on producing a variety of beers ranging from traditional bitters to modern hazy IPAs and stouts.

Rebellion - Smuggler4.20GoodThis amber-coloured special bitter from the Marlow Brewery, known as the Rebellion Beer Company, an independent microbrewery based in Marlow Bottom, a village north of Marlow, Buckinghamshire, came with very good head and lacing and lasting all the way. A dry malty first hit. A fruity hoppiness rising from its Fuggles and Goldings, along with Amarillo or Cascade which is used as late additions to lend a fruity citrus and tropical touch as well hints of dried fruits like raisins or dates. The odd sweet malty note jumping up with touches of caramel and toffee derived from its Crystal Malt, mixed with Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt and Chocolate Malt. A biscuity, marmalade-infused flavouring emerging onto the taste buds with hints of bread and chestnuts. A dry bitterness prevailing before sailing downwards. Served in top condition and very moreish.
