Fifth visit of this outing: My first foray into this former bank at Blackheath Standard and very busy on our mid-evening arrival with others unconnected to the birthday party already in situ at this somewhat roomy micropub. Primarily laid out with long bench tables on the inside and free-standing chairs and bordering on being almost too sizeable to fit the traditional micropub definition. Friendly attentive service and the only venue of today’s visits to take just card payments. Most of our party of attendees sat outside in its forecourt area but limited seating inside afforded some of us to also be accommodated here.

| Tom's Tap - Mighty Stout | 4.80 |  | 2nd beer of this visit: Slowly poured like an old-fashioned stout with a frothy head forming and lasting creamy lacing evident and from an independent craft microbrewery set up in 2018 in Crewe, Cheshire. A dry malty first bite with earthy scents of black coffee, chunks of dark chocolate and hearty wholemeal bread. A hoppy bitterness from its single-hopped Pilgrim rising and where this hop commenced commercial cultivation between 2000 and 2001 and behind notes of lemon, sharp grapefruit, pears and ripe berries. A maltiness joining in with a sharp black coffee-infusion rearing up from its barley and jumbo oats, the latter sourced directly from Mornflake*, Crewe's oldest business and the fourth oldest business in the UK, founded in 1675, with the oats lending this stout its silkiness and heavy body. A very subtle sweetness aided by flavours of chocolate sauce and with hints from its Pilgrim hops of grassy herbs, cedar and subtle hints of liquorice for me. Its dry bitter maltiness prevailing before its sailing out. Served in very good nick with superb conditioning. *In 1941, this family company officially launched the "Mornflake" brand name and where production was behind sustaining Britain’s food supply during World War II. |
| Indie Rabble - The Editor's Rest | 4.00 | | 1st beer of this visit: Came with a very respectable looking head and lasting lacing on this Berkshire gold-coloured pale ale from the Windsor brewery established in 2023 and which also runs Windsor's A Hoppy Place micropub. A dry hoppy first hit on this collaboration between Indie Rabble and Pellicle Magazine, an independent, reader-supported publication dedicated to beer, wine and pub cultures. Here they have collaborated with Indie Rabble to create this exclusive, limited-run cask ale based on the West Coast style pale ale that pairs a modern hop profile, using Tango hops, with a classic English malt base. A grape-infused fruitiness rising with notes of zested and candied orange. A dry hoppiness from its dual-purpose Tango hop variety that originates from Germany and where their male breeding line related to Hallertauer, a celebrated German aroma hop, has been crossed with the US Cascade hop with an emerging sweet fruitiness from orange peel, grapefruit and zesty lemon, alongside passionfruit, pineapple, green apple and subtle apricot prevailing for me. A spiciness mixed with fresh pine resin and a floral hoppiness lingering. Served in very good nick with plenty of conditioning. The pump clip features an attached miniature bell that actually rings when the bartender interacts with it and based on vintage, cast-iron British pub signs. |

The pub is found in Blackheath, Greater London, SE3 7AA.
A pub and small brewery venture in the Royal Standard area of Blackheath in Vanbrugh Park. It is a conversion of the previous imposing Barclays Bank building. It is the brainchild of the Common Rioters Brewery. Soft openings on 8th and 9th July 2022 to test systems and logistics then open from 13th July 2022. 20 wall keg taps on white tiled bar back wall and 3 handpumps on the basic wooden bar counter. The brewery is visible from inside the bar room at the far right hand end but at autumn 2025 is still not operative. Seating is at low tables and chairs. Emphasis is clearly on keg sales at the usual higher prices for them. Card payment only, cash not accepted. Initially open Wednesday to Sunday only, now Tuesday too.
