Around the corner from the Exeter Arms, a lively crowd in for my swift visit. Good selection noted, and again, too many new ales and not enough time!

BeerABVScoreNotes
Brunswick - Midnight Express3.90PoorBlack mild, regrettably this sample was not up to standard, flat and lacking condition and with a very dry earthy taste that was not particularly pleasant or mildlike to my taste. My score 11/20.

Quite busy on a Saturday afternoon here. I sampled the food here and although expensive for Derby was quick to arrive and in very generous portions.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Derby - Hops Away4.30GoodGood hop character to this pale ale, with a good citrus flavour. Some malt balance. Dry, citrus finish. My score 15/20.
Exit 33 (formerly The Brew Company then Sky's Edge) - North Star Amber4.90GoodMore red than amber, this was a malty ale with good biscuity malt and a little hop bitterness. My score 15/20.
Spitting Feathers - 18624.00AcceptableRather an earthy, dry taste to this pale bitter. Little malt character and a short, dry finish. my score 13/20.

I had the rack of 5 beers as samples (third of a pint) with a dish of cheese as well. Everything about this pub I liked, helpful staff, good interior, I like the sample tray. I just wish the Derby beers had been a bit better as a showcase.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Derby - Business as Usual4.40PoorDeep copper, it’s probably the least bad of the 4 Derby beers I had as part of the rack. Still too syrupy on the malts, but at least some mineral character is there. OK bitter.
Derby - Old Intentional5.00PoorCopper brown with no head. Malty copper coloured style beer. Not a great aroma, ok in mouth. OK on finish.
Derby - Double Mash4.60PoorAttractive clear brown colour, no head. Syrupy brown malty beer, limited hop on finish. Brown malty bitter, ok flavours, but no real condition and no real hop
Derby - Dashingly Dark4.50PoorVery dark brown. Mlats are very syrupy. Very dark malts, more roasted than toasty, but no real choc or coffee, bit of both, Not great.
Springhead - Hersbrucker3.60UndrinkableGold, no head. Odd chemical aroma. No condition. Bleach aroma and flavour. Awful
