27 Mar 2013 (Mick)
Very quiet tonight, not to surprised considering the bitter cold weather.
Saltaire - Cascadian Black | 4.80 | | I like this, some dark roast but hops shine through. |

02 Dec 2012 (Stephen Harris)
I’ve only been here once before, when it was absolutely jammed for a beer festival. Tonight there are just 6 other customers – three canoodling couples tucked into dark corners. I decide on a very quick pint and onwards.
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale | 3.80 | | Full-flavoured pale ale. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Bath Ales - SPA | 3.70 | Not Tried
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Bengal Lancer | 5.00 | Not Tried
09 Jun 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Mid evening visit. On Saturdays more a venue than a pub. Euro football screening of Germany v. Portugal. Canalhouse gives a real ale discount for card carrying CAMRA members but this was not prompted by bar staff nor signed - I only found out afterwards whilst reading Nottingham Drinker so not catering very well for casual visiting members.
Full Mash - E.S.P. | 3.80 | | First rate golden ale - full of zest and excellent mouthfeel. "Forced" a second one down |
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Castle Rock - Sheriff's Tipple | 3.40 | Not Tried
Castle Rock - John Player Nottinghamian Celebration Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
Castle Rock - Mink | 2.80 | Not Tried | At £2.80 p.p. it seems to defy the hope that low gravity beer tax savings might pass partly to the customer. More expensive than £2.70 Sheriff's Tipple at 3.4% |
20 May 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy on a Sunday late afternoon.
Grainstore - Rutland Panther | 3.40 | | Not a great sample of this black mild, lacking in the usual strong roasted malt flavour with a rather dry finish. My score 14/20. |
11 Feb 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Hosting the SIBA champions beer festival although by the Saturday mainly dark beers were all that was left, not that I minded.
B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - Shefford Dark Mild | 3.80 | | A true traditional black mild with sweet toffee and caramel notes and a little fruity hop in the finish. My score 16/20. |
Dorking - DB Black | 3.20 | | Dark brown mild with good sweetish chocolate malt and hints of liqourice. Low hop rate. My score 16/20. |
RCH - Hewish Mild | 3.60 | | Black mild with roast and chocolate malt notes and a full body for its strength. A little roast bitterness in the finish. My score 16/20. |
Tryst - Brockville Dark | 3.80 | | Dark brown mild with a slightly earthy/peaty malt taste. Some hop and fruit in the finish. My score 15/20. |
Nobby's - Guilsborough Guzzler | 3.60 | | An amber light mild with grainy cereal malt notes and some fruit in the finish. My score 15/20. |

Kinver - Half Centurion | 5.00 | | Strong golden bitter with a good citrus grapefruit hop character and some malt balance. Fruity, citrus finish. My score 15/20. |
Forge - Handsome | 5.10 | | Strong amber bitter with good malt character and robust bitterness. A little citrus hop in the finish. My score 15/20. |

SIBA champions festival in progress, although on the last day the beers were rapidly running out.
