A wet and windy Saturday, and I think most people had opted to stay indoors. Joe made us very welcome and provided a complimentary cheese board, and another gentleman turned up with a bag of pies from Sweeny's of Reading, this all went down very well with our beers. Inclement weather meant that we started our homeward journey a bit earlier than originally planned which was just as well as trees on the line meant that it took just under four hours to get to Waterloo.

Ramsbury - Flint Knapper4.20Excellent
Downton - Quadhop3.90ExcellentA regular here, and a reliably good pint.
Privateer Beers - Dark Revenge4.50ExcellentThis was due to replace the Midnight Mild once the lines were cleaned, but the barman very kindly drew me a pint from the cellar. Delicious dark porter type brew.
Ramsbury - Gold4.50Not Tried
Magic Dragon (formerly New Plassey) - Midnight Mild4.20Not TriedI tried this, but it was the last one in the cask and not very nice, the barman took the beer off sale immediately, and cleaned the lines before putting another beer on.

11.50 on a Saturday morning, a flying visit before moving on to Salisbur Rugby Club. Joe had a beer with us, and booked our taxi for us. I did not make a note of all the beers on offer but there was one from Butts, and at least one other beer.

Lunch time, afternoon, and early evening visit. Joe joined us for a few drinks, and provided O'Hagans sausages, cheeses, and some extremely strong pickled onions to accompany the beers. We chatted about beers, railways, and railtours in Zimbabwe. The beer must have been good because I ended up purchasing a candle from a display near the bar.

Absolutely packed for the 30th anniversary of the London based "Weekly Windup". A special beer was brewed as well.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Downton - Wind Up 30th4.00GoodA light mild, amber in colour, with added vanilla. Perhaps a little too sweet, with little hoppiness to balance the vanilla. My score 15/20.

This pub is so handy for the station that I visit it every time that I go to Salisbury. The barmaid seemed to be knowledgeable about the beers, and advised me that my first pint was probably the last one in the cask and she would change it if necessary.

Only a handful of locals in so we got a seat easily. The beer range was good and I would come back here if I visit Salisbury again.

The pub is found in Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP2 7EF.

Wide booths provide plenty of seating in this attractive pub. Very handy for the railway station and some excellent take-aways on the way. The pub has very much a railway theme too owing to the interests of the owner. Sometimes a cask beer is sold on gravity off the counter top. Salisbury & South Wiltshire CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2014.

We have visited this pub 19 times, seen 60 different beers and tried 29 of them.
