On my first visit last year, I was very impressed, so I thought I would come back and see if my first impression was right. Happily it was, with an excellent beer line up. Not too busy, so I sat at the window with my book and some halves of beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Bishops Farewell4.60ExcellentStunning. Nothing else to day, stunning. Grapefruit biting citrus.
Loddon - Bamboozle Pale Ale4.80AcceptableGold, disappearing head. A little bit of nothing really, not horrible or poor, just not a lot of flavour. Some malt, some fruit, some hop. Fine, but no distinguishing features.
Hesket Newmarket - Haystacks3.70AcceptablePale gold with lasting thin white head. Bit of cereal and oddly ashtray on aroma. Lime citrus in mouth. Good condition, but this ashtray persists. Off putting.
Bradfield - Farmers Blonde4.00AcceptablePale gold, thin white head. Some grapefruit on aroma. Another Hophead wannabe. Bit of farty yeast. Not entirely successful, bit too farty.
Wadworth - Horizon4.00AcceptableGold, beige head. Fruity blond bitter, with peach and apricot. Some earthy hop. It's quite pleasant. The fruit isn't really my style, but given my ambivalence to Wadworth, this isn't bad. Still not too exciting.
Eastwood & Sanders - Beyond The Pale4.00Not Tried

Friday lunchtime and it was packed which is a good sign. They are four weeks in as a Red Car pub and doing well by the looks of it. I came due to the article in the Beer paper from Camra. Alex, who runs the pub and looks after the cellar was very friendly and helpful. Even when I didn't think the Jarrow Rivet Catcher was quite right, I got a full replacement half. Great customer service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Saltaire - Cascade Pale Ale4.80ExcellentWhat a great beer. Has the cascadey piney aroma. Stunning really. The finish is brilliant.
Hambleton - Village Brewer White Boar3.80ExcellentGold, lasting off white head. Easy drinking golden bitter, with good tingling hop on finish. Excellent condition. Good session bitter. Stunning flavours.
Arundel - Autumn Fall4.10GoodPale gold with lasting thin off white head. Beautiful grapefruit hop aroma. Excellent sherberty condition. Solid blond beer with a lemon curd finish.
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Redcar Best Bitter (aka Nethergate 3.9)3.90GoodPossibly a re-badge of Nethergate Threepointnine. Copper colour with thin lasting beige head. Fruity best bitter, some dry malt, some good deep fruits. Earthy malty aroma. Superb condition. Decent bitter.
Shardlow - Chancellor's Revenge3.60AcceptableGold, lasting off white head. Now this is clearly 3.6% Bit watery, some tingling hop, almost a boys bitter, but with new fangled citrusy hops on finish. Little bit of dustiness.
Jarrow - Rivet Catcher4.00PoorOdd aroma. I have to say that this may be down to my own personal taste for this beer. Great customer service by the guys behind the bar though to replace it. All the other beers were in top notch condition.
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood3.70Not Tried
