Visits Details
30 Aug 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until midnight close.
Little Monster - Yul | 4.60 | | At first I expected a murky raw citrus hit but this was, yes murky, but subtle hopping with raw hop oil bitterness on the lips |
JW Lees (see also Lees) - Moonraker | 6.50 | | Very good but would no doubt have been bettered by not pouring through the 6th duff handpump |

Cloudwater - Verses of Solitude Mild | 3.40 | Not Tried
Good Chemistry - Free Thinker | 4.50 | Not Tried

17 Aug 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until midnight close.
Downlands (formerly South Downs) - Best | 4.10 | | In lovely condition but I could not work out where its unique flavour originates |
Siren Craft - Mucha Mora Mocha Imperial Stout | 9.00 | | A 9% engine oil viscose coffee hit. Lost a mark for being pulled through the duff handpump that does not excite to give a head or lacing |
Hammerton - N1 | 4.10 | Not Tried
Arbor Ales - Shangri-la | 4.20 | Not Tried
Newbarns - 70/- Best Heavy | 4.20 | Not Tried
Brew York - Splinter Yuzu Pale (collaboration with Ossett) | 4.00 | Not Tried
10 Aug 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Late visit until close - only customer left in I do believe.
Fauna - Bushy Tail | 3.80 | | Mid brown basic bitter with good head and lacing |
Siren Craft - Viva Patrón | 8.00 | | A chewy heavy 8% coffee stout. Ordered a half but got a pint so took it anyway and helped later comatose-ness |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried
Track - Sonoma | 3.80 | Not Tried
Brew York - Calmer Chameleon | 4.10 | Not Tried
Neptune - Riding the Tide | 4.20 | Not Tried
03 Aug 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until close.
Brighton Bier - T.I.N.A. Bitter | 3.80 | | Took me a while to identify the subtle orange citrus in quite dry bitterness |
Siren Craft - Broken Dream Breakfast Stout | 6.50 | | A whole mark lost for being poured through the defective handpump leaving me to decant between two glasses to bring a head, lacing and more condition |
Track - Sonoma | 3.80 | Not Tried
Siren Craft - Lumina | 4.20 | Not Tried
Siren Craft - Memento | 3.80 | Not Tried
Verdant - Penpol | 3.80 | Not Tried
20 Jul 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until close. Surprising quiet for such a warm evening.
RedWillow - Faithless 200 Nelson Idaho 7 | 3.80 | | Star of the evening |
Cloudwater - Verses of Solitude | 3.40 | | Obvious duty dodger brew, actually a tasty dark mild |
Arbor Ales - Blue Sky Drinking | 4.40 | | Most odd overly malty taste I did not enjoy |
Gun - Scaramanga Extra Pale Ale | 3.90 | Not Tried
Brew York - Make It Strata | 4.60 | Not Tried | No warning it would be hazy on pump clip, it was so I avoided ordering it |
13 Jul 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close. Several Red Lion emigrées in.
North Riding Brewery - Walnut Stout | 5.50 | | Did not suffer from being pulled through the 6th handpump. Full bodied and full of flavour |
Buxton - Axe Edge Double IPA | 6.80 | | A heavy nightcap but poured almost flat with no head or lacing. Pleased I only had a half |
New Bristol - Bristol Bitter | 4.00 | | Highly malty, rather wet dog. Quite a chore to finish |
Track - Sonoma | 3.80 | Not Tried
Marble - Turing Test | 3.80 | Not Tried
Salopian - Bauhaus | 4.20 | Not Tried
06 Jul 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until close.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur Noir | 5.90 | | I mark it as served and handed to me with 3* being generous. Absolutely flat in the glass. This is how the 6th handpump line here serves, being defective. Once decanted between 2 pint glasses a number of times it came alive, was superb with a 4* or maybe 4½* and I had a second which was also multiple decanted into being superb |
Arbor Ales - Rocketman | 6.00 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Astryd | 3.80 | Not Tried
360° - Volks ESB | 5.50 | Not Tried
Verdant - Lightbulb | 4.50 | Not Tried
Buxton - Double Back | 4.60 | Not Tried
Left Handed Giant - Galaxy Pale | 4.40 | Not Tried
01 Jun 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until close. Entranced to stay by the intense bitterness of the ales tried.
Brew York - A Problem Shared (collaboration with McColl's Brewery Evenwood) | 5.80 | | Outstanding extreme bitterness in a tongue rasping way and a full bodied ale to boot. Forced to have a second by its very bitter appeal |
Arundel - Smash | 4.50 | | A light coloured ale with tongue rasping hop bitterness but some haze that was not pre-warned of |
360° - Session IPA | 4.30 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Astryd | 3.80 | Not Tried
Lost and Grounded - Spring Protagonist | 4.40 | Not Tried
Left Handed Giant - Golden Mild | 3.40 | Not Tried
25 May 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. I look round and smile at how many are drinking flat cloudy keg - however did this trend come about.
Stewart - Cauld Reekie Stout (Superior) | 6.20 | | I mark as it was presented to me. Ruined by being pulled through the one defective handpump which needs to be repaired or not used. It pours a flat pint. After I had multiple decanted it between two glasses it came alive to what would have been a mark of 3½* |
Track - Sonoma | 3.80 | Not Tried
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Tropical Deluxe | 3.80 | Not Tried | No indication of brewer's name on hand made pumpclip, luckily another customer elucidated me |
Gun - Chummy Bluster | 4.40 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Bowie | 3.40 | Not Tried | Duty reducer beer |
Rooster's - Variation on a Theme | 4.30 | Not Tried
