Afternoon visit, the front bar was absolutely full with a party of diners enjoying festive fare. We utilised the rear of the pub and made the most of the fact that Abigale Samphire was still on offer as a result of the normal tied trade deliveries not arriving.
Abigale - Samphire | 4.10 | | A good copper coloured easy drinking bitter. |
06 Dec 2010 (ChrisE)
A quiet Monday lunchtime. Heavy snow in the previous week had meant that the pub had not received its normal deliveries, and just two ales were on offer.
Abigale - Samphire | 4.10 | | A good copper coloured traditional bitter. |
09 Oct 2010 (Collis)

Early evening. A few locals in talking about hand grenades and rabbits. I sat at the bar and enjoyed my pint. A couple of ciders on handpull too.
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | | Best pint of this I've had in some time, bit of biscuit on the finish. Some decent hop and some tangerine fruit. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Directors (use Banks's entry now please) | 4.80 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried

For complicated reasons, I had left my bike outside this pub on my way to Tenterden. The awful music from KMFM forced me outside. Had a half of Lowenbrau just to cool me off.
Rugby - Union Premium Ale | 4.40 | | Served too warm which made it taste of peppery omelette, but even still the hops shone through and in good condition and if served 10 degrees less would have been excellent. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried

After reading a couple of essays through for Tammy, I got her to drive me out here, as my sister said that it had got better, and I remember last month a sign outside saying "Real Ale back on." Three handpumps with London Pride, Speckled Hen and the Timothy Taylor's Landlord was turned around just as we walked in. Really quite attractive small dark cosy pub with lots of original beams, brickwork and floorboards. Long wooden bar runs the length of one side. Mexican dominated food menu and lots of candlelight.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | This is now my standard fallback pint if there isn't anything more exciting on. I like the decent balance of malt and hop and the finish is surprisingly good. This and Young's ordinary are both good beers, I really quite enjoy drinking. |
Greene King - Morland Old Speckled Hen | 4.50 | Not Tried

Formerly the Hooden Horse, this used to be a regular haunt for me 10-15 years ago. The inside has changed a little, but the layout is still similar. Up to 3 real ales on. Great Chart is a very pretty village and it is nice to sit outside the front of this pub in the summer and watch the world go by.
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | | Fine, not at its tip top best but some caramel and brown sugar on the taste and some apple fruit |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried
