13 Apr 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
A good Friday evening feel to this house. Recently voted Joint runner-up in Derby CAMRA City Pub of 2012 competition. Excels with CAMRA card discount and Castle Rock 1 over the 8 card promotion.
Castle Rock - Elsie Mo | 4.70 | | Always my favourite Castle Rock quaff. If only Castle Rock brewed a good sharp hoppy mid brown beer. |

Hardknott - Continuum | 4.00 | Not Tried

23 Mar 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy late on a Friday afternoon.
Harbour - Light Ale | 3.70 | | Golden in colour with a good balance of malt and hop to give an easy drinking refreshing ale. My score 15/20. |
12 Nov 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy early evening on a non-home game evening.
Amber Ales - Hop Devil IPA | 4.80 | | Golden coloured strong bitter with a good hop character and a full bodied fruity citrus hop flavour. The finish is fruity and hoppy. My score 16/20. |
30 Sep 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy late on a Friday afternoon.
Castle Rock - Brown Trout | 4.80 | | Strong nut brown ale, amber in colour with a nutty, malty sweetness but also good hop character. My score 15/20. |
27 Aug 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Steady stream of punters arriving pre Saturday lunchtime showing this pub is back on track.
Burton Bridge - Eternal Triangle | 4.50 | | Standard malty, yeasty amber coloured bitter beer. Little hop character with some malty sweetness and a dryish finish. My score 14/20. |
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild | 3.40 | Not Tried
Acorn - Ginger Nuts | 4.20 | Not Tried
Leeds - Samba | 3.70 | Not Tried

08 Jul 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Good few in following the Derby beer festival.
Castle Rock - Malt Loaf | 4.50 | | Dark brown beer with a strong malty flavour, little hoppiness and a fruity finish. Rather like a strong mild. My score 15/20. |
Castle Rock - Boatman | 5.00 | | A cloudy Bavarian style wheat beer that is not really to my taste. Bitter, spicy flavours dominate with a very dry finish. My score 11/20. |
21 May 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
A select band of drinkers in here on a Saturday afternoon, and a good range of beer showing that the pub is emerging well from a period in the doldrums.
Burton Bridge - Moorish Mild | 3.90 | | Ruby/brown mild with some malt and a little hop in the finish. My score 15/20. |
25 Feb 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
A good atmosphere in here after a period of uncertainty. A few people in from the nearby Winter Ales festival.
Lincolnshire Craft (formerly Tom Wood's) - Mild | 3.50 | | Quite malty dark brown mild with a slightly sharp hop finish. My score 15/20. |
02 Oct 2010 (Alenomore)
Last visited in 2007. Some sort of changover is occurring here, hence only two customers in and two ales on from Castle Rock? Things will get back to normal, so the chap behind the bar told me, in a couple of weeks time. Watch Pubsandbeer for further updates!
Castle Rock - Elsie Mo | 4.70 | Not Tried
Castle Rock - Gold Bitter | 3.50 | Not Tried
10 Sep 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Castle Rock - Drought Buster | 5.40 | | Apparently a mis brew of something else, this was a pleasant pale brew with plenty of citrus hop character and a full bodied mouth feel. Dryish, hoppy finish. My score 15/20. |
