King Beer (formerly W.J. King) - Brighton Blonde3.90GoodPale gold in colour with a good crisp hop character and good malt balance. My score 15/20.
Abbeydale - Surreal Ale No.14.10PoorVery pale and very hoppy and bitter. Sorachi Ace hop dominates giving an intense bitter and floral flavour that is not to my taste. My score 9/20.
12 Apr 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Super fest in progress with another 200 beers on offer in the coming fortnight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Olde Swan - Light Mild (aka Original)3.50ExcellentClassic pale light mild with soft hoppiness and sweet biscuity malt which continues right through to the finish. My score 17/20.
Langham - Flor-Ale3.80GoodMalty pale bitter with toffee and biacuity malt flavours and moderate hoppiness. Finish is fairly sweet and malty. My score 15/20.
05 Apr 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rhymney - King's Ale4.70ExcellentAmber best bitter. Excellent soft, fruity hop character and toffee malt flavours giving a smooth and well rounded sweetish beer. The finish is long and fruity. My score 16/20.
Acorn - 18875.00GoodStrong amber bitter with a dry, hoppy character. The finish is dry and hoppy. My score 14/20.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Hawkshead - Cumbrian Five Hop5.00ExcellentPale gold and probably the hoppiest beer on this JDW fest. Plenty of citrus hop character and a full bodied fruit cocktail of hop flavours. My score 16/20.
01 Apr 2011 (Ian)
By far the best of the central London Spoons. Big, with screens up showing what is on the 24 handpumps.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Inveralmond - Old Brig4.00GoodMid brown clear colour with lasting beige head. Its a pleasant malty slightly caramel beer. Some bitterness on finish. Yes slight caramel hints. Fine if unexciting.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Corncrake Ale4.10GoodClear gold colour with lasting thin white head. Floral hop aroma. Some rose petal flavour. Its a decent golden ale. Some lovely flral hops on the finish. I had a very tired palate by the time I got to this. Need to curl up on a sofa with a bucket of fried chicken. Need sleep. Decrnt beer though. Good condition and flavoursome hops

BeerABVScoreNotes
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Early Doors4.50GoodWell balanced best bitter with a good malt character and some hop bitterness in the finish. My score 15/20.
Nelson - Robbie's Rum Porter4.80PoorBlack porter with no sweetness at all, harsh bitter malt flavours and an earthy, rubbery character. My score 9/20.
15 Mar 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nelson - Core Commander4.40PoorVery pale and brewed with apples. Very bitter with no apple flavour, or hoppiness and little balance of flavour. The finish is of musty dry cardboard. Not to my taste for being too bitter. My score 8/20.

The pub is found in City, Central London, EC3V 0DR.

Big and busy JDW pub in the heart of the City in Gracechurch Street. Huge sports screen on one wall. Wonderful building with lots of high ceilings and marble. The lights in particular are worth noting. Oval bar towards the rear serves numerous handpumps (I saw 18) including guest beers not on the JDW usual guest list. This is definitely worth going to if you are in the City during the week.

We have visited this pub 89 times, seen 401 different beers and tried 181 of them.
