01 Sep 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Very busy for last 40 minutes of serving and staff member who plays the requested music loudly back on, on a Sunday.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Southwark - Bermondsey Best4.40GoodNew on with a frothy head and fine lacing. Sharp to taste and to the bottom of the glass but fizzing on the tongue and very, very malty. It was like drinking a soup as although clear, it had a chewy mouthfeel. One sufficed.
Oakham - Harmonic (collaboration with Salopian)4.40GoodStill good head from trying night before but cor, was it packed with fruit! Many a grapefruit would have been harmed in the making of it!

Late evening visit until close. Sunday request records on the loud side.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Harmonic (collaboration with Salopian)4.40GoodZesty to mouthfeel, not a bittering I enjoy alas
Marble - Draft3.90AcceptableNot overly bitter, little condition. Had Marble in much better condition
Iron Pier - Dark Mild3.00AcceptableUnusually bitter for a mild but poured and stayed flat
Oakham - Green Devil IPA6.00Not TriedRumoured to be on but not on menu board

31 Aug 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Busy for last 50 minutes of serving and so a few more faces back from their summer holidays.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Harmonic (collaboration with Salopian)4.40GoodA beer with a good head, that's my boy, and made up for the flat Goachers just before. Hoppy with a very heavy amount of grapefruit flavouring and pine resin.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale3.70AcceptableShame as was superb night before. Must have been at the end of its barrel as flat and only second day on. Shows how popular it has been!
Marble - Draft3.90Not Tried
Iron Pier - Rosherville Red4.80Not Tried
Iron Pier - Dark Mild3.00Not Tried3.3% on landlord's sheet.

30 Aug 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Quiet for last 40 minutes of serving. Usual warm welcome from staff member and prompt service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale3.70ExcellentFresh on this evening and like liquid bread fresh out of the oven, and highly recommended by fellow regular. Frothy head with a superb bitter aftertaste. Hoppy, moreish mouthfeel from East Kent Golding hops and was not disappointed and so stuck to it.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Castle Rock - Everyday People4.10GoodOnly 2nd day on, recommended by others in, and good head and full of fruity flavours and a bitter aftertaste.
Downlands (formerly South Downs) - Best4.10Acceptable5th night on from Sunday so proves a lot of people still away. Still a good head but a slight sour taste.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Merchant's Stout4.00AcceptableGood carbonation, with fruity, bitter and slightly sour mouthfeel.
Iron Pier - Rosherville Red4.80AcceptableGood head but a sour, medicinal taste. Thankfully only a half was asked for.

Quiet footfall despite a few fiddlers playing in rear seating area for last 30 minutes of serving.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Downlands (formerly South Downs) - Best4.10GoodStill holding its carbonation after first trying two days earlier. Very sweet mouthfeel and so the caramel and toffee flavouring cannot be missed.
Iron Pier - Wealdway IPA4.50GoodVery frothy head and real fruity mouthfeel.
Park - Treebox Blonde (was 4.9%)3.90AcceptableDescribed on sheet as 3.9%. Fruity mouthfeel but minus a head after getting at least half way down pint.

Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - The Union6.00ExcellentA long awaited chance to sample this ale. A very fine concoction marked as served. After multiple decantings between two pint glasses it brought out more head and lacing and nose and would have been 4.5
