Rammed.
Six clips showing but only one had beer in it. Oh Dear JDW!
Greene King - Hopportunity Knocks | 4.20 | | Surprisingly this was my beer of the weekend not so much for the beer but the faultless condition in which it was served. |
13 Aug 2016 (McGargle)
When other places let you down (yes I'm thinking of The Star) Swatters Carr is always a reliable option.
Black Sheep - Golden Sheep | 3.90 | | Pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed this well crafted golden ale. |
20 Feb 2015 (HSB)
15:33 Having failed at Dr Phil's our bladders were stretched, so this offered a welcome respite. Very busy in the front less so opposite the bar. Unfortunately, having ordered a beer, I was suddenly taken ill and had to abort the rest of the weekend's plans and go straight home, if a six hour journey can be called straight.

30 Nov 2013 (McGargle)
Absolutely jammed but friendly atmosphere.
Stonehenge - Old Smokey | 5.00 | | Quite thin for a porter at 5% but some smoke from the grain. |
Adnams - Pretty Things Jack D'Or Saison Americaine | 6.00 | | OK but this example was one dimensional. |
09 Nov 2013 (McGargle)
Nothing of interest so moved on.
11 Jul 2013 (McGargle)
Quick and friendly service.
Marston Moor (brewed at Rudgate) - Dagaz | 3.60 | | Undemanding pale session ale. Would be better with more hops and less caramel. Slightly cloudy. |
Rudgate - Ruby Mild | 4.40 | Not Tried
02 Mar 2013 (McGargle)
Busy mid-evening - a good mix of locals and students.
Rooster's - Wild Mule | 3.90 | | Light clean and hoppy. Just the thing after South Indian food at The Dosa Houze across the road. |
29 Sep 2012 (McGargle)
Busy. Quick friendly service.
Summerskills - Bunker Hill Bitter | 5.10 | | Mid-brown beer. Easy drinking belying its strength with good hops to finish. |
Nelson - Dragon's Revenge | 4.30 | | Nothing wrong with the serve this is just badly brewed beer. No coherence, just awful turgid, cardboard. Do JDW's beer buyers not taste before and after buying? |
25 Aug 2012 (McGargle)
After disappointments at The Isaac Wilson and Star it was great to come to a pub that was busy with keen staff and an enticing ale selection.
Tring - Side Pocket for a Toad | 3.60 | | For a 'light' beer this was full bodied, some solid malt and excellent hop presence. |
Ossett - Excelsius (was Excelsior) | 5.20 | | Full bodied, slightly sweet golden ale. |
Cotswold Spring - Stunner | 4.00 | | Mid-brown, earthy and dry. |
Ossett - Silver Fox | 4.10 | Not Tried
31 Dec 2011 (McGargle)
Early evening New Year's Eve and already busy. Good solid demand for the cask ales and the excellent Dosa restaurant just across the road.
Wainstones - Steel River | 4.30 | | Light chestnut with good creamy head. Solid malt body with good depth of hop flavours. Lingering dry finish. |
Ossett - Pale Gold | 3.80 | | Sparkling light gold. Initially spicy in the mouth but eventually lacking in body and flavour. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Batemans - XXXB (now superseded by 4.8% version) | 4.50 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger | 5.00 | Not Tried
Hook Norton - Old Hooky | 4.60 | Not Tried
