12:00 visit I remember first visiting this little pub way back in the early 80's, it was run by a farming couple who owned the pub and run one of the local farms. Way back then the pub was very rustic and totally unspoilt with one ale and that being Strongs bitter and the only food available was crisps and bread and cheese served on a paper plate with a plastic knife and fork. The pub would then be full of farmers and workers off the forest and the landlord would come straight off the farm to help his wife serve, dung on boots and all! Today the pub is still very much unspoilt, toilets still outside much lighter inside the bar and offers much more choice for today's more demanding customers. Was and still is a fantastic little New Forest pub :)

Jane, Isabel and I were travelling back from Lyme Regis and picked this pub for lunch. Driving through the New Forest for a bit was a nice change to the A31 and as we arrived at about 12.15 I was surprised to find the pub (which is in the middle of nowhere) quite busy. The staff were friendly and efficient and clearly geared up for lots of people. We sat in the garden under a large yew tree and had a pint and a cracking Stilton ploughman's. All the beers were on gravity.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Bowman - Wallops Wood4.00ExcellentBadged as Royal Oak Bitter. This was excellent. A brown bitter with plenty of fruitiness (I got a bit of strawberry, melon and cherry) and malt. Really refreshing.
