Fairly quiet early on a Saturday afternoon with a few locals calling in for a swift pint.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kent - Zingiber4.10ExcellentAnother beer that from the pumpclip seems to have changed strength since the new brewery started. An excellent pale ale with just the right amount of ginger which doesn't impinge on the hop and malt balance. My score 16/20.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Shoreditch4.30GoodVery pale ale with a strong peach hop flavour. Not much malt in evidence with a dry, peach finish. My score 15/20.
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild3.80AcceptableThis sample was far more bitter than I was expecting. Not sure what was wrong here, but too bitter for a mild. My score 14/20.

Busy thriving ale house which attracts a balanced mix of young and old alike.

Quite simply a superb boozer. In spite of having just eaten a splendid meal at the Pineapple, the pies and sausage rolls proved irresistable.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marble - Pint (was 3.9%)3.40ExcellentAnother pale beer with a thin, bubbly head. Hoppy with citrus notes.
Camden Town - Inner City Green3.90ExcellentI was originally put off by the name, having tried a couple of beers that were green or greenish in colour, and not very enjoyable. However this is a superb pale beer with a thin bubbly head. Very moreish with citrus notes, very similar in colour and taste to the Marble Pint that I had just finished.

Brilliant buzz in this no nonsense pub. I like the real money only no plastic sign. Staff are friendly efficient and know their stuff and the vinyl music helps the ambience. Shame the cider tends to be better than the beer
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ascot - Single Hop Citra4.60AcceptableNot enough citra but the lasting hopoy finish is good
Hardknott - Katalyst3.80PoorDiacetyl. Some hop on finish and some fruit salad in mouth

Very busy with locals and swelled by a visit from the Thursday evening mild drinkers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Empire - Cherry Chocolate Mild3.80ExcellentSweet and chocolatey black mild with just a hint of cherry. My score 16/20.
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild3.80GoodDark ruby colour, some bitterness in the taste, but also fairly malty with a dryish finish. My score 15/20.
Mighty Oak - Cold Comfort4.00GoodPale bitter with good hop character with some citrus flavour and good malt balance. My score 15/20.

Just an amazing early evening sat with the 4 guys from Struise in Belgium drinking cider, perry and mead. The pork pies and cheese plates were both excellent.

A wet Monday lunchtime, we enjoyed some excellent beers, good quality pork pies, listening to vinyl, and the company of a wonderful pub dog. This pub only sells beers and ciders from small independent breweries. The two lager style beers on offer were from Meantime Brewery.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Peter's - Mild3.70Excellent
Redemption - Urban Dusk4.60ExcellentChestnut brown in colour, a bit like a strong mild.
Severn Vale - Severn Springs4.40ExcellentGolden, hoppy IPA

Busier than usual from a visit by the London mild drinkers club.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Priory Mild3.50ExcellentTop condition here, big malty kick to start then furit and bitter choclate malt to finish. My score 16/20.
Mighty Oak - Sweet Chariot4.20ExcellentDarkish mid brown bitter which delivers an unexpected taste of fruity hoppiness more akin to a pale ale. Full bodied taste of berry fruits gives way to a dryish finish. My score 16/20.
St Peter's - Mild3.70GoodBalck mild with some roast malt and a fair bit of hoppiness in the finish. My score 15/20.
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild3.70GoodLess sweet than usual, malty, but with a dryish finish. My score 15/20.
Oxfordshire Ales - BBB3.70AcceptableRather sweet and cloying with a slight hint of diacetyl present. My score 14/20.

The pub is found in Gospel Oak, Greater London, NW5 1LE.

Reopened as a traditional freehouse, this pub has a very retro feel about it, with tungsten lighting, bare boards and minimal decoration. Lots of handpumps dispense local microbrewers' products and there are several real ciders on handpump too. 12 handpumps, vinyl music played and renowned pies, savouries and hot rolls all play their part in making this a very successful and well patronised pub.

We have visited this pub 29 times, seen 146 different beers and tried 64 of them.
