Evening. In the middle of a good natured regular auction, this time of a Singer sewing machine cabinet and other lots; the bagful of kinky "clothes and things" did not even sell when reduced to a quid. A lad at the bar was over the moon with his wheelie suitcase for a pound and his 20p framed artistic photo of Japanese cars ready to hang on his stairwell.

Evening's last stop in Stoke. As usual made a fool of myself. An 18th birthday celebrator had a character chocolate cake which looked to me like Dusty Bin but turned out to be a Minion. What do I know!

Pretty quiet, someone took a photo of some customers for the website. For some reason some chirpy young girlies were chosen... I wish Joules would have some guest ales to go with their range, like Titanic do.

The pub is found in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST4 1HG.

The Glebe is in the heart of old Stoke with the city’s magnificent civic buildings, designed by Henry Ward in 1834, wrapping their way around the pub whilst the majestic Stoke Minster looks on. The pub is rather dwarfed by all this grandeur but the effect is to magnify the pub’s quality and its stubbornness to survive. It is a classic corner pub of its day built at the same time as the civic buildings during William IVs short reign pre Victoria. It is listed with its classic design, some marvellous features; unique leaded glazing by the studio of William Morris, period architrave and its original central rounded mahogany bar counter. The glasswork was all restored by Paul Georgiou a master craftsman based in Erdington. At the very heart of the original Joule’s pub estate the Glebe is the flagship Joule’s Ale House for Stoke-on-Trent. It’s a reasonably short walk from the mainline railway station, so is as convenient for visitors as for local people. Front and rear bars each with their own bar counter and handpumps (4 in front, 5 in rear) but best to get served in the back bar as that is where the bar staff always congregate.

We have visited this pub 18 times, seen 10 different beers and tried 9 of them.
