Visits Details

06 Jul 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Today sees an extraordinary choice of beer festivals and events across London. Robert and I choose to make a late afternoon visit to the mildly eccentric Brüpond, on its un-lovely Leyton industrial estate. There is a festival underway featuring English breweries that have American brewers. Unfortunately it has not been very well-supported and there will be a lot of unsold beer. Around 40 present during the couple of hours we were here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Bexar County - Humo y Fuego3.90GoodA dark brown, smoked porter, flavoured with tea and a little chilli. Quite a mix of flavours.
Wild Beer Co. - Scarlet Fever4.80GoodA thick, red ale.
Hoppy Collie - Red Ale6.00GoodOn keg dispense with low carbonation. Satisfying, strong red ale. Not sweet.
Lovibonds - 69 IPA6.90GoodOn old skool keg dispense. Cold and fizzy, but with really good, fruity, US hop tastes once warmed a little.
Moor - Illusion (Black IPA)4.50Not Tried
Moor - Nor'Hop4.10Not Tried
Brüpond - Sweet Bee Honey’d Wheat4.50Not TriedWe were actually warned off of this by the brewer, who said it had turned a little sour.

The brewery is playing host to a charity event with teams of five running 5 Km carrying beer casks - £1,000 is raised. Odd, changing-room type atmosphere when I visit at 1pm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brüpond - Ain’cho Mum’s Chilli Porter4.20ExcellentNice to see this beer available in cask-conditioned format. Black, rich-tasting, chocolaty with a little burn of chilli.
Brüpond - Continually Hopped IPA6.00AcceptableFrom a bottle. Amber-coloured and cloudy. Quite highly-carbonated. Decent flavour, but does not taste to its strength and the hops could be more aggressive.
Brüpond - Sweet Bee Honey’d Wheat4.50PoorFrom a bottle. A murky amber colour. Bit of honey evident. But taste dominated by an unpleasant sourness – I could not finish my glass.

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E10 7QE.

A micro-brewery established in November 2012 and part-financed by a ‘crowd-funding’ project which raised £15,000 online in 15 days. Tucked away in an obscure corner of a very large industrial estate on the northern edge of Leyton. Beer is produced primarily for bottle, with keg and cask versions also produced. This brewery closed down during the autumn of 2013.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 16 different beers and tried 7 of them.
