Not too busy (we had just come from the Horseshoe which was mobbed). Friendly staff.

I got here about 11.30 in the morning ready for the Ratebeer European Summer Gathering to kick off at 12.00 in the basement. Charlie turned up at around 20.00 and we all ended up upstairs drinking. I was sat with Charlie (Charles of this site), Gazza (Gareth Prescott - a noted beer scoopoer) and Royce from Ratebeer drinking Brew Dog Punk IPA, which was great as we had met the brewer that afternoon at the Gathering. Good pub with an excellent beer drinking feel to it.

BrewDog - Punk IPA6.00ExcellentI could have drunk this all night. In fact I more or less did drink this all night. Excellent British take on an American IPA, with lots of grapefruit hop, but with a soft creaminess to the body that helps it slip down.
Kelburn - Pivo Estivo3.90GoodGold, thin off white head. Tasty citrus, grapefruit, sherbert. It’s a fine golden beer, with requisite hoppiness.
Inveralmond - Sunburst4.80PoorGold, no head, dull lager, a little dusty, some puke, some hop. Not great. Pretty horrible UK lager.

Busy. Here to meet Ian at the end of his Rate Beer gathering.

BrewDog - Punk IPA6.00ExcellentBottled version is 6% - I think the cask version is slightly weaker but, even so, don't drink too much of it or you won't remember the journey home. First time I'd tried it, so I don't know how this should taste. Very impressed with this sample. Ian introduced me to Paradox by the same brewer which was outstanding but only comes in bottles.

Corner pub in the Merchant area of the city. Wooden bar to one side of the main room serves a couple of drinking areas. There is a room downstairs for bands. Several handpumps on with a good range of Scottish and English micros.

BrewDog - Paradox Speyside Edition10.00ExcellentI had a single shot of Glen Moray (the whisky casks used for this one) at the Bon Accord and you could definitely see the hints of that coming through. Black, ruby edges, thin beige head. Lovely whisky Speyside aroma. Very vanilla and tangerine. Good vanilla pod flavour. Oily, some coffee/milk chocolate. Nice, alcohol is a little burning. I was still drinking this at 01.00 in the morning on way back to hotel from a bottle I had filled with the rest of my pint. Oh my head.
Kelburn - Misty Law4.00GoodCopper, lasting beige head. Lovely IPA hop aroma, good American style grapefruit hop. Really good hops, but the malts are a little poor.
