A couple of people were in at the bar but other than that it was quiet.
| Roosters - Good Cheer | 3.70 | | I've not had this before so I don't know if it's supposed to taste like this or if it was on the turn but the apple-citric nature of it put me right off. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - No. 7 | 3.80 | | Took it back and they took it off and replaced it with something else |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Wyre Piddle - Summer Splash | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Cottage - Lazy Hound | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
19 Mar 2010 (Blair)
Dead tonight, seems people have given up on this town. The line-up is pretty awful for the 'Pub of the year', hey-ho you can't win them all.
| Nethergate - Old Growler | 5.00 | | Not as good as I remember but still pretty good. Roasted malt and a bit of chocolate. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
17 Mar 2010 (Blair)
Out for St Patrick's day but for some reason Ramsgate is like a ghost town tonight, the quietest I've seen it in a long time. Still had a few drinks here before trying to find a bit of life.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Common Conspiracy | 4.80 | | I liked this a lot more than last years version. Really hoppy with a little sweet malt in there. |
| Adnams - Irish Dry Stout | 4.00 | | I was really impressed with this actually. Coffee and slightly soured fruit, classic tart stout flavour. Great beer. |
| Nethergate - Old Growler | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

14 Mar 2010 (Blair)
Really busy with a fair amount of excitement about the band soon to be playing. We listened to 3 songs before deciding it wasn't our cup of tea and headed back to the artillery, a bit barbershop for us. Recently announced as Thanet Camra pub of the year 2010.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Seasider | 4.30 | | Malty, fruity and hoppy a classic summer beer in my eyes. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Cottage - Great Western | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
07 Mar 2010 (Blair)
I didn't mind too much when Churchill's decided to show the Rugby, but showing the football is a bit far for me and it seemed to upset a few of the other regulars as well. Luckily it was only on briefly before a band started playing. Hendrix and The Doors covers mainly, perfect for a Sunday evening.
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | | Strong fruity beer. |
| Ossett - Excelsior | 5.20 | | Hoppy and citrussy, pretty good beer. |
| Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | | It's taken me a long time to realise but I'm not overly keen on this beer. Kept perfectly well. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
05 Mar 2010 (Blair)
Really busy tonight, really good to see, however, the vast majority were all around 18 so did feel an old man which doesn't happen often.
| Timothy Taylor's - Landlord | 4.30 | | Ever reliable. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
26 Feb 2010 (Blair)
A mates birthday so a group of us bundled in here. Showing the rugby tonight which was odd, seemed to work though as the pub was packed.
| Potbelly - Crazy Daze | 5.50 | | Sweet, fruity beer. Quite good if ever so slightly sweet for my palate. |
| Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | | Dark bitter with a sweet toffee and malt flavour. Can't say anything bad about a Dark Star beer. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
17 Feb 2010 (Blair)
Nothing on at the cinema so thought we'd come out for a few pints instead. Bumped into a few old friends, other than that pretty uneventful.
| Brains - SA | 4.20 | | I remember it being better than this. Overly sweet, little malt and fruit in there but couldn't taste much past the sweetness. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
06 Feb 2010 (Blair)
My mate was down from London so despite feeling hideous from the night before I was obliged to go out. A band were on and they weren't really our cup of tea so we ran away after just the one.

28 Jan 2010 (Blair)
Managed to gather enough pennies to be able to afford a couple of pints. Quiet and subdues tonight, midweek is often a depressing time in Ramsgate.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - 80/- | 4.60 | | Not as good as I've had recently, a little tart on the finish. |
| Dark Star - Critical Mass | 7.80 | Not Tried | |

Huge group of us taking up the entirety of the upstairs, almost reminded me of being back in the Munich beer halls. Great night, even managed to get the barmaid to join in the banter.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Little Cracker | 5.00 | | Rich, malty and creamy pint. Really satisfying. |
| Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | | Intense roasted malt and chocolate flavours, a true classic. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Seasider | 4.30 | | Sweet, fruity and hoppy amber ale. |

24 Dec 2009 (Blair)
6th year running I've been here on Christmas eve, no particular reason really. Very good atmosphere I wish every night of the year could be like this. Ended up sitting on a table of people I didn't know jabbering about nonsense. I love christmas eve.
| Dark Star - Critical Mass | 7.80 | | Very rich and complex, little covonia and spice, loads of chocolate. Lovely beer, always a challengee to see how many you can drink before falling over. I managed four. |
| Exmoor - Antler | 4.00 | | Malty, biscuity bitter. Quite good. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Christmas Cake | 4.60 | | Evil, nasty, vile, hideous or any other word to describe something disgusting. It wasn't off, just a horrible beer. Avoid like the plague. It's not often I'll send something to the slops bucket, but there was no way myself or anyone else in the pub could drink more than 2 sips of this. |
| Burton Bridge - Hearty Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Brains - Party Popper | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |

18 Dec 2009 (Blair)
Another friday night and another visit to Churchill's. The usual crowd in, myself and my friends were here until closing, by which point we were all barely able to stand. Success!
| Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | | Rich, viscous and dark. Everything you want in a dark beer. |
| Cottage - Santa's Steaming Ale | 5.50 | | A good Cottage beer, quite a novelty. Dark, fruity beer with a little chocolate and xmas pudding. |
| Burton Bridge - Bridge Bitter | 4.20 | | Alrightish bitter, malty with an odd aftertaste. |
| Burton Bridge - Festival Ale | 5.50 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
10 Dec 2009 (Blair)
The usual midweek trip to the pub, got here at around 8. There was a big group of us and we took up most of the upstairs. Beer line-up was a little boring perhaps.
| Everard's - Old Original | 5.20 | | Fresh, malty beer with a little fruit and a hitn of chocolate. Rather nice. |
| Burton Bridge - Old Expensive | 6.50 | | I'm confused, this came out of a barrel that said old expensive but last time I had this it was a dark beer. This time it was a brown-bitter colour. Strong malty flavour with a little drak fruit. |
| Hydes - High and Dry | 4.90 | | Synthetic chocolate flavour, quite watery. Meh. |
| Everard's - Tiger | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Kentish Reserve | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
04 Dec 2009 (Blair)
It had been a full 2 weeks since our last trip here, so me and my friends came down for our standard night out. It was pretty busy tonight with a fair few young people in. Pete gave us the usual rundown of upcoming beers.
| Dark Star - Double Chocolate Stout | 4.50 | | A very rich and thick stout. Loads of roasted malt and a fair bit of coffee, however, not as much chocolate as the name would have you believe. Fantastic beer though. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Seasider | 4.30 | | Sweet, hoppy and fairly malty. A delicious and refreshing amber ale. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Theakstons - Old Peculier | 5.70 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
21 Nov 2009 (Blair)
A colleague was playing here with his band so I was obliged to come along, in fairness I end up here most saturdays anyway.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | | Rich, full in the mourh, fruity and chocolatey this is a wonderful beer. |
| Nethergate - Essex Border | 4.80 | | Yeasty, earthy tasting ale. Quite fruity with a little hop, alright. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Theakstons - Old Peculier | 5.70 | Not Tried | |
19 Nov 2009 (Blair)
In just after 10, virtually empty tonight. Chatted to Pete for a bit then sat up front. Why don't more people go out on weeknights?
| Theakstons - Old Peculier | 5.70 | | Fruity, tangy and smooth. Roasted malts and a little chocolate. Still not as good as I remember it a few years back. |
| Cottage - GWR | 5.40 | Not Tried | |

13 Nov 2009 (Blair)
Got here at around 9 with a large group of friends. This is a great pub to bring a group as there's something for everyone. Good lineup behind the bar and Pete was on great form as usual.
| Nethergate - Old Growler | 5.00 | | Great porter, lots of roasted malt maybe a little smoke. Very good. |
| Brentwood - Hope & Glory | 4.50 | | Sweet and malty with a little toffee. Not at all bad. |
| Ridleys - Witchfinder | 4.30 | | This tasted like a porter that's had some of the beer bottle penny sweets left to dissolve in it. Odd but it's actually rather pleasant. |
| Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

07 Nov 2009 (Blair)
Got here at just gone 11 to find Juicy Lucy playing, a pleasant surprise. Good crowd of people had come to see them so the place was heaving.
| De Molen - Engel | 4.50 | | Big, sweet and fruity flavours with a hint of spice. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
31 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Good band on tonight, a blues-jam band type of afair. Not as busy as usual for a saturday night, but enough people to create a decent atmosphere.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dogbolter Winter Porter | 5.60 | | This was on absolute top form today. Incredibly rich and moreish, chocolate and dates dominate with a lovely tartness. When at it's best I think this beer is nigh unbeatable. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Also in fantastic form, great best bitter. Very malty and smooth, a classic. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
24 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Sat chatting to the barmaid for a while until a band started playing, not my cup of tea really and they were very loud. I sound so old, but nipped back to the artillery to escape the racket.
| Dark Star - Porter (aka City) | 5.50 | | Hmmm, for a dark star beer this really is disappointing. Served a little too cold which didn't help it's cause. But just not enough flavour. A little roasted malt was about all I could taste. Pleasant, but I've come to expect better. Shows how good Dark Star is when I find a beer disappointing yet still rate it as good. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | | Not as good as usual, maybe because it was a tad cold. Still a good fruity ale with a nice kick. |
| Burton Bridge - Festival Ale | 5.50 | Not Tried | Pete the Landlord gave me a taster, I wasn't impressed. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
17 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Arrived quite late at around 11 after having a meal over in Margate. Really good band called 'Crazy Train' were playing, I'd recommend seeing them. Pete the Landlord was in a merry mood and talked us through all the beers he's got coming up. He also mentioned that he's thinking of doing a 'Test your Strength' evening of beers all over 10%.
| Dark Star - Oktoberfest | 5.20 | | Very good beer, bordering on excellent. Sweet with lots of caramel/toffee going on. Another good beer from Dark Star, although for me it was just a little on the sweet side. |
| Burton Bridge - Big Ben | 4.50 | | Not a bad beer, but it had a slight ashtray taste to it. A little honey and caramel, pretty uninteresting really. I think Burton Bridge really need to stop creating new beers and concentrate on improving their current roster. |
| Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

16 Oct 2009 (Blair)
First night of the cider festival, I was helping out behind the bar. I didn't even have 1 half of cider the whole night, which in hindsight seems a little off. At one point a man came to me and exclaimed that I looked like a man who knows his cider prompting laughter from everyone else behind the bar. He couldn't have been more wrong if he tried. Good night with a solid crowd of people. Had a good chat with Ian which was getting more and more drunken on both sides as the evening wore on.
| De Molen - Amerikaans | 4.50 | | This was delicious, it may have been a different version of Amerikaans but I can't quite remember. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | | Rich, fruity and easy to drink. This, Adnams Broadside and Fuller's ESB really seem to have it down in the strong bitter department. |
| Old Mill - Fall Over | 4.50 | | Fruity bitter with a little caramel and malt. |
| Cottage - Stanier Five | 5.00 | | Not at all bad for a cottage beer actually, almost gave it 3 and a half. Very dark brown with a strong chocolate flavour, not good quality chocolate more like the cheaper waxy chocolate of low quality easter eggs. Overall a little synthetic but drinkable enough. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
16 Oct 2009 (Ian)
2nd Thanet Cider and Perry Festival which was as the 1st year, excellent, a must event of the year now. Spent the first bit chatting with Blair and then sat with Eddie Gadd and his wife plus Steve and Kim talking about what makes a good cider/perry and then about beer in general and finally to Blair behind the bar about Sheffield and other northern cities. I hadn't had anything to eat all evening so I have a feeling that I was pretty drunk. Really can't tell.
| De Molen - Amerikaans | 4.50 | | Dry hopped with Amarillo hops. The Amarillos just jumped out of the glass. If I'd known this was on the bar upstairs I wouldn't have touched a fruit based drink. This was so good I had a pint and a half in about 20 mins right at the end of the evening. I love hops. |
10 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Arrived quite late but the place was still busy and a band was playing. Grabbed a seat upstairs as it was too busy by the bar.
| Dark Star - Old Ale (aka Old Chestnut) | 4.00 | | Really smooth ale, chocolatey with a bit of fruity. Can't detect any chestnut, but a lovely beer nonetheless. |
| Loddon - Hullabaloo | 4.20 | | Dark, fruity and malty bitter. Really quite good. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
25 Sep 2009 (Blair)
Not as busy as it should be on a friday night, but enough people to produce a decent atmosphere. Sat up top and sank a couple.
| Nethergate - Old Growler | 5.00 | | Dark, chocolatey porter with just a little sourness. Went down a treat. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

06 Sep 2009 (Blair)
Popped in for a quick pint to see if anything interesting was on. Good line-up as it happens. No more bands on a sunday which is a bit of a shame.
| Oakleaf - Blake's Gosport Bitter | 5.20 | | Strong dark bitter. A little coffee to go along with the malt and caramel. A really good beer. |
| Burton Bridge - Sovereign Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
| Brentwood - Lumberjack | 5.20 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

09 Aug 2009 (Blair)
After a scorching day at the beach, a few pints were definitely in order. Always busy on a sunday afternoon here, the band EK1 were playing and they were great.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - She Sells Sea Shells | 4.70 | | I look forward to this on a hot day, fruity with lots of hops and toffee. Lovely beer. |
| Crouch Vale - Golden Duck | 3.80 | | Really refreshing hoppy pale ale. Lots of citrus and plenty of fruit. Great aummer beer. |
| Hook Norton - Haymaker | 4.90 | | Tasted like toffee apples. I really liked it. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
25 Jun 2009 (Blair)
Quite busy with a lot of people eating, I reckon that's probably the key to keeping this place busy on weeknights. Nice relaxed atmosphere as always.
| Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | | Good but not great pint of broadside. The usual fruity malty beer, but something missing. Still enjoyed it though. |
| Brentwood - Lumberjack | 5.20 | | Novelty ales are never too good in my experience, this was no exception. Very odd flavoured beer, hazy amber, very fruity with a bit of spice. Meh. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Burton Bridge - Dover Dynamo | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
10 May 2009 (Blair)
Band playing so it was really loud inside. Roasting indoors, we could only take it for a couple of pints then we had to seek out somewhere cooler!
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Thoroughly Modern Mild | 6.00 | | A little warm, the opposite to normal in here. Still a really good beer. Rich and chocolatey, yet amber in colour. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | | Not sure what I was thinking, I already knew I wasn't overkeen on this. A little fruity with a a light hoppy undertone. Just a bit bland. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Naval Reserve | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Burton Bridge - Bridge Bitter | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
09 May 2009 (Blair)
Had the usual band playing on a saturday night. We were all a little worse for wear at this point so we had one pint and then went our seperate ways.
| Butcombe - Bitter | 4.00 | | Good pretty standard bitter. Malty with a little hop and biscuit. |

| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
04 May 2009 (Blair)
Pretty quiet tonight which surprised me. No band on though so that explains it. Still a nice relaxed atmosphere.
| Dark Star - Saison | 4.50 | | Typical Belgian style flavour to it. Quite sweet and easy drinking. |
| Burton Bridge - XL Bitter | 4.00 | | A little fruit and malt but altogether pretty bland really. |

05 Apr 2009 (Blair)
I was realy in the mood for a pub trip all day, so by 7 I gave in and dragged my mates along with me. We just caught the end of a blues band that were playing, they were great. An extremely drunk man did come up to the group of us and offer us outside, I found it a little odd but he wandered off after a few minutes of being the brunt of our jokes so it was fine.
| Westerham - Special Bitter Ale "1965" | 5.00 | | I liked this a lot. Nearly the perfect beer to be drinking on a warm spring evening. Smooth and hoppy with anice malty finish. |
| Fuller's - ESB | 5.50 | | Rich and almost creamy full bodied bitter. Very fruity with a nice light hoppiness. Wonderful beer. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Native | 3.70 | Not Tried | |

04 Apr 2009 (Blair)
For some reason it seemed like a good idea to come here after The Butchers. After running from The Butchers to Herne Bay train station then Ramsgate station to here I had really earned a pint. We'd just missed the band that was playing unfortunately. Still very lively with a right old mix of people.
| Theakstons - Old Peculier | 5.70 | | They've changed this and I don't think it's for the better. It seems a lot lighter in colour and not as strong tasting. Old Peculier used to be one of my favourite beers, this was good but not as good as it once was. |

01 Apr 2009 (Blair)
Came out for the usual mid week pub trip. Chatted to Alistair about his latest adventures then joined my mates.
| Westerham - British Bulldog "BB" | 4.30 | | I really liked this. Light and malty bitter, a real pleasure to be drinking. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Common Conspiracy | 4.80 | | This was the last pint out of the barrel so it might be a little inaccurate. A good beer, quite bitter and lager like. Plenty of hops going on. Yup it's good. |

28 Mar 2009 (Blair)
After being forced into going to the trendy wine bars of ramsgate it was good to get back to what I know. Busy with a lot of people stood watching the band playing. There was a large group of us so we sat upstairs.
| Dark Star - Hophead | 3.80 | | On fantastic form. Light and deliciously hoppy. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dragon's Blood | 5.30 | | Really good. Smooth malty and quite sweet. |
| Highgate - Irish Whiskey Ale | 4.60 | | Subtle tasting ale with a hint of whiskey at the end. Malty with a little smoke hanging around. Nice enough but nothing special. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

21 Mar 2009 (Andrew)
We visited the Foy Boat first but didn't stay as they only had one guest on and it wasn't very interesting. Churchill's was busy with plenty of people eating. We ate too. Fish n Chips and a pint of Landlord was £5.50! Ian got chatting with the landlord who did a cellar run for us.
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | | Smoky sweet nutty slightly sour dark stout. |
| Timothy Taylor's - Landlord | 4.30 | | Fruity, earthy pint of landlord |
| Dark Star - Saison | 4.50 | | In good condition but just not my kind of beer. Wheat's for bread. |

2nd pub on our tour and the lunch special was exceptionally good value. Landlord very kindly did a cellar run of the Dark Star Saison for us
| Fuller's - ESB | 5.50 | | Best pint of this beer I've had. Fruit was amazing |
| Timothy Taylor's - Landlord | 4.30 | | Went down well with my chicken fajitas |
| Dark Star - Saison | 4.50 | | It's a Belgian wit, good satsuma fruit |
11 Mar 2009 (Blair)
Only 5 other people in. I haven't seen it this quiet in a long time. Although it has to be said; the ale selection seems to be slipping mildly as of late.
| Batemans - GHA | 4.20 | | The aroma was pure vomit. The flavour was a little better. Synthetic toffee and sugar. Wow this is a very poor beer. |

Came to see the band Juicy Lucy. Pub was packed out, great atmosphere.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dogbolter Winter Porter | 5.60 | | I had the first pint out of the barrel. It was gorgeous, thick and rich. Like christmas cake in a glass. |
| Dark Star - Hophead | 3.80 | | Towards the end of the barrel, quite hazy with a bit of an aftertaste. Everything else was normal hophead though. Grassy and hoppy. |
| Cottage - IKB | 4.40 | | Not bad. Malty with a bit of fruity caramel. Another average beer from Cottage. |
| Hydes - Finders Keepers | 4.70 | Not Tried | |

There was a band on, and they were a bit rubbish. A couple of my friends were obviously a bit drunk and decided that it would be a good idea to boo them as they finished. Surprisingly it didn't go down too well. I left them to it and hid by the bar.
| Beartown - Snoopy's Special | 4.20 | | I'm always weary of novelty beers but this one was quite good. Malty and easy drinking. |
| Burton Bridge - Damson Porter | 4.50 | | Nice fruity flavour to it but too watery. With a bit more body it would be a great beer. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Hydes - Finders Keepers | 4.70 | Not Tried | I had a sip of my friends and I wasn't impressed. |
27 Feb 2009 (Blair)
Came for a quick pint after the Arty just to see if Pete had anything interesting on. To be honest I was pretty drunk at this point, more drunk than I deserved to be as well. But my memory fails me at this point.
| Dark Star - Six Hop Ale | 6.50 | | Strange having this straight after the Jaipur, both incredibly hoppy yet both so very different. I think I prefer this one, got almost a barley wine flavour to it. |

| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried | |

25 Feb 2009 (Blair)
Pretty busy, it always is these days. Grabbed a seat up top. We've been on a quest for a nice dark pint of something tonight and even Churchies has disappointed us.
| Marstons - Sweet Chariot | 4.80 | | I knew I wasn't going to like it by the fact it was brewed by Marstons, but I still gave it a chance. I shouldn't have, this is verging on awful. Overly sweet and cloying, a lot of toffee but nothing else really. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |

14 Feb 2009 (Blair)
I just can't keep myself away from this place. It was absolutely heaving as a local band were playing. Great crowd, great beer and great music. I left at 1am but it showed no signs of closing.
| Dark Star - Six Hop Ale | 6.50 | | Equally good as it was last night. Intensely hoppy with bags of fruit. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | | On great form. Creamy with malt and toffee with a complex fruity flavour. |
| Crouch Vale - Amarillo | 5.00 | | Lots of hops, floral aroma. A very pretty beer. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | | This is everywhere you see, but I'd forgotten that it's actually a pretty good beer. Sweet with lots of toffee and malt. Very easy drinking bitter. |
| Hook Norton - Hooky Gold | 4.20 | | I don't know why I got this because I already knew I'm not a big fan. Quite bitter and hoppy and not that easy to drink. Not a bad beer though. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - Native | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Smiles - Old Tosser | 4.30 | Not Tried | |
13 Feb 2009 (Blair)
I was in such need of a good pint that I actually ran here from the station. Pretty quiet in tonight, but then everywhere is in ramsgate on a friday night. No Pete tonight which was a shame, but had a good session nonetheless.
| Dark Star - Six Hop Ale | 6.50 | | This is a great beer but it really knocks you for six. Extremely hoppy as you'd expect, loads of fruit especially grapefruit. So easy to drink. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Great Scot! | 4.70 | | I really like this. Such a starnge combination of whisky with a pale ale, it really does work though. |
| Dark Star - Old Ale (aka Old Chestnut) | 4.00 | | Dark and relatively thin in the mouth. A little smoky with some chestnuts and malt. Good beer, but I was mildly disappointed if I'm honest. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |

Officially my favourite pub in Thanet now. Pete is a fantastic Landlord. Probably the best band I've ever seen playing in a pub. The Shaggy Dogs, they were french but it's not their fault I suppose.
| Okells - Aile | 4.80 | | Wow, wow, wow. Oh, and wow. This beer is amazing. So rich and fruity, with lots of chocolate and malt. I had 3 pints. |
| Dark Star - American Pale Ale | 4.70 | | Incredibly smooth. Gorgeous hops. I need not say more. |
| Cairngorm - Gold | 4.50 | | I detected a little diacetyl. Quite fruity and creamy, was a bit synthetic though. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
03 Feb 2009 (Blair)
It was packed with people eating as they have a budget busting new deal on food midweek. Felt more like a restaurant than a pub tonight, but it was still good to see a pub doing well.
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | | Not quite at it's best but still a very enjoyable pint. |
| Exmoor - Hart | 4.80 | | Dark red/brown ale. Very sweet and fruity. Not my kind of beer really, but some of my friends thought highly of it. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
31 Jan 2009 (Blair)
About twenty or so people scattered around the pub. Great atmosphere in here, and it has to be said; Pete is a fantastic landlord. A band were just setting up while we were here, but we were on a tight schedule and only had one.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Great Scot! | 4.70 | | I really wasn't sure about this at first, but it grew on me. It's like no other beer I've ever tried. A sweet pale ale with a hefty kick of whisky towards the end. Very interesting beer. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Dark Star - Hophead | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
22 Jan 2009 (Blair)
A few people in, enough to make it seem busyish anyway. Hadn't been to the pub in a while so it was good to be here. Pete the Landlord was his usual hospitable self, even informed us of the new Gadds' he was hiding out back.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - 80/- | 4.60 | | Dark ruby, brown in colour with little to no head. Extremely malty with a little bit of underlying butterscotch. Very nice for it's style, unfortunately just not my favourite kind of ale. |
| Ossett - Silver King | 4.30 | | Pale straw coloured ale with a crisp citrus flavour. Quite lagerish in it's approach. Not bad. |

03 Dec 2008 (Blair)
Relativel busy around the bar, we got our drinks and assumed the usual position upstairs. Only here for a short while as we got here at 10.
| Everard's - Old Original | 5.20 | | I really liked this. Malty and creamy, very refreshing. Good beer. |
| Dark Star - Hophead | 3.80 | | Good form. Not much more can be said about this one. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | | This almost deserves 5 stars. rich and chocolatey with a fair amount of roasted malt, a little liquorice and a hint of smoke. Just lovely. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
27 Nov 2008 (Blair)
They've had a refit since I was last in. Not much has changed, just some new carpet really. Pete was a great laugh as always, even brought us over a taster of Dark Consiracy when it came on.
| York - Centurion's Ghost Ale | 5.40 | | Lovely dark ale. Rich and chocolatey with nice malt. Really good stuff. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | | Fantastic condition. Lots of roasted malt on this one. Once again quite a lot of carbonation. Really nice interesting dark ale. |
| Brakspear - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | | Not bad, but very boring. Sweet with a little hop and malt. Just a very basic golden ale really. |

Stop no. 3 on the Ramsgate crawl. Not particularly busy, so I sat by the front window looking out over the bay. Seems to be a day for winter warmer beers as this one had 3.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Seasider | 4.30 | | A bit like a beefed up No.7 with a bit more deep malt and fruit roundedness. Bi tof spicy orange fruit. Decent bitter. |
| Dark Star - Hophead | 3.80 | | When I got in the pump clip was turned round, but I snuck a peak at it to see what it was as i could see it was a Dark Star beer. Imagine my delight when it came back on. Just a little soapy and once you have had this beer at the Butcher's Arms in peak condition, everything else tends to be a bit of a let down. |

Advertises itself as CAMRA's Thanet Pub of the Year 2004. Arrived with my wife about 1 pm and there were very few customers in the bar area but by the time we left about an hour later there was certainly more activity. Staff were friendly and helpful and we had a geat value meal. The Guest Ale was Doom Bar.
| Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger | 5.00 | | Nice clear drink which seemed to lack the body that I like. Still, a drinkable ale. |

Pretty quiet in tonight, which is odd for a thursday. You can always rely on Pete to have an interesting beer on, this time was no exception.
| Dark Star - Smoke | 5.00 | | This was close to getting 5 stars. Bavarian style rauch beer, the smoke is very apparent. Really interesting, and very tasty. |
| Hopdaemon - Skrimshander | 4.10 | | I'm always happy when I see this on in a pub, one of the first ales I ever got a taste for. This was in great nick, malty with that odd yet inoffensive metallic flavour. Top stuff. |

Came to see a friends band, unfortunately arrived 3 hours too late! Sat top and had a couple before heading gome.
| Theakstons - Old Peculier | 5.70 | | I love this beer. Rich and black, loads of roasted malt and chocolate with a slight tartness. |
| Arundel - Stronghold | 4.70 | | Rich choloatey with lots of fruit as well. Top ale. |
| Old Mill - Halloweeen Surprise | 3.90 | | Not bad, bit bland. what i expected from a novelty ale. |
30 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Really busy with loads of people eating food. The amount of people eating actually detracted a little from the atmosphere but hey ho it's only a small niggle.
| Thwaites - Lancaster Bomber | 4.40 | | Malty and smooth. Very easy drinking beer. |
| Robinsons - Dizzy Blonde | 3.80 | | Very sweet, a little cloying and tasted quite synthetic. Not great but alrightish. |

| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
22 Oct 2008 (Blair)
A friend of mine is moving to Wales, so we had a going away shindig here. There was about 15 of us, so the pub went from being dead to fairly busy.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Exodus Stout | 6.20 | | This was so much better than it was at the Hop Farm. Eddie told me I had to have it, I wasn't going to say no. Very rich with lots of roasted malt and chocolate. A little smokiness in there as well. This is how a stout should be done. |
| Ossett - Silver Shadow | 3.90 | | I liked this. Sweet with a nice floral aroma and fruity flavour. Good session beer. |
| Burton Bridge - Festival Ale | 5.50 | | Full bodied strong ale. Quite hoppy and easy to drink. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Seasider | 4.30 | | Nice malty bitter with a nice hop background. This is a really reliable beer. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
19 Oct 2008 (Blair)
I can't actually remember what the atmosphere was like for some reason. I'm sure it was good though.
| Burton Bridge - Old Expensive | 6.50 | | I was expecting better, but this was still a good beer. Dark and very rich. I couldn't taste the strength. Good to see the winter ales starting to appear. |
18 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Came along for the second night of the cider festival. I could only stomach 1 pint of cider this time around. Not as busy as the night before downstairs, the upsatirs was geaving though.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Gadd's Old Pig Ramsgate Brown Ale | 4.80 | | Yup, equally good as last night. |
| Timothy Taylor's - Landlord | 4.30 | | A bit sharp, but still had the normal creamy, malty flavour to it. |
| Brains - SA Gold | 4.70 | | Quite floral and fruity. Nice and refreshing. |
17 Oct 2008 (Ian)
It was the 1st Thanet Cider & Perry festival, so I had to go didn't I? A great evening with Phil Lowry, Alistair, Eddie Gadd and Blair (who I got to meet at last!!!).
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Gadd's Old Pig Ramsgate Brown Ale | 4.80 | | OK so I had drunk cider all night, but this was brilliant. Malt and hops!!!! Clear pale chestnut, lasting beige head, a good looking beer. Lovely dry malt aroma with some earthy hop. Slight grapefruit. Soft and typically Gadd’s good malts in the mouth. Good hops on the finsih, quite tart and sharp which balances the malts well. Outstanding brown ale. Perfect condtion too. That’s a good beer. |
17 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Came for the cider festival, despite the fact I don't actually like cider all that much. Good to see so many people turn out for it, and finally met Ian! Tried a good few ciders, I'm still an ale man though.

It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside and basked in the sunshine. Juicy Lucy were playing in the evening. It was a good day.
| Oakham - Beermonster | 4.80 | | Very sharp and fruity. Really refreshing beer, also very bitter. Tasted distinctively Oakhamesque. |
| Ringwood - Old Thumper | 5.60 | | Rich and fruity. Good beer. Has been better in here though, just last week in fact. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Malty best bitter. Easy drinking and tasty. |
| Fuller's - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

The landlord really loves his beer, which is great. I'm not sure if he's new but they've really stepped it up a gear these last few months.
| Arundel - Stronghold | 4.70 | | Very good. Very malty with a lot of fruit going on. Really satisfying. |

Really busy with some strange band playing. We weren't impressed with the band or the beer line-up so we scarpered pretty quickly.

Really quiet for a friday night, no band on as well which was odd.
| Cains - Finest Bitter | 4.00 | | Really rich fruity bitter. I was quite impressed, but for some reason it got a little too much by the end of the pint. |
| Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | | Really malty with a nice straw like flavour to it. Good beer. |

| Fuller's - Summer Ale | 3.90 | | Really good, toffee and hops. More flavour than you'd expect. |

| Timothy Taylor's - Landlord | 4.30 | | Superb pint of landlord. Creamy and malty with plenty of toffee in there too. Lovely. |

Arrived at about 2pm. It was pretty quiet and all talk was of the water-ski championships that were being held near-by and the fact that the pub had crocodile with mango sauce on the menu board. I've been in this pub before, but years ago in my youth, it has certainly changed - I would argue for the better.
| Jennings - Cocker Hoop (aka September Ale) | 4.60 | | I was hoping for some Dark Star but this was a pretty good alternative. Golden with white foam head, intensely fruity with citrus and sherbert. A slightly over-sweet finish which stopped it from being a 4. |

Really busy in tonight, great to see. Big group of us pretty much took up the whole of the upstairs.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Gadd's Dr Sunshine's Special Friendly English Wheat Ale | 4.20 | | Really interesting beer, very fruity. A beer like no other. |
| Timothy Taylor's - Landlord | 4.30 | | Not as good as it should be. The normal sweet, fruity malt flavours were there, but there was also a harshness that's not normally. |
| Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale | 4.20 | | This beer seems to have a lot of fans, but I'm really not impressed. I find it overly sweet, very cloying and with a nasty harshness to it. Must be something I'm missing. |

| Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | | Quite thick and sticky, quite a rich nutty flavour. Really good. |
| Dark Star - Old Ale (aka Old Chestnut) | 4.00 | | A little cold so the flavours weren't as pronounced as I'd like. Still a nice pint though. |

Stop number 3, this place was fairly quiet. Deserves more customers although it is big so that could just make it feel quiet. Friendly staff though.

Very quiet, but I was with a large group so it didn't mater. Just good to be somewhere that wasn't showing the football.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds) - Dark Mild | 4.00 | | I love this mild, this wasn't as good as it was at the Monty but still a nice pint. Roasted malt with a little chocolate. Another seasonal I wish Eddie would promote to regular. |

Fairly busy, good vibrant atmosphere. This pub is really growing on me.
| Dark Star - IPA | 6.20 | | A stunning IPA. Fruity and hoppy, I'm not usually a fan of IPA's but if I find more like this I'll easily be converted. |
| Vale - Gravitas | 4.80 | | I was expecting a dark beer for some reason. However, this was a very pleasant, fruity golden ale. This one would go down really well on a summers day. |
| Hopdaemon - Cuckoo | 3.80 | | For it's strength it manages to cram a lot of flavour in. Very malty, and pretty tasty too. |
