Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingExcellent08 Aug 2026 7th beer of the visit: Came with good head and lacing for some time after its pour on this Essex-brewed porter from The Billericay Brewery established in 2012 and at Chapel Street, Billericay. A chocolatey coffee-infused first bite. A dry malty bitterness rising with dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavours shining. A fruited maltiness winning over with a subtle hint of caramel from its Malted Barley, chocolate malt and roasted grains to aid its smokiness. A touch of dark fruits tantalising my taste buds and assisted by its likely hops, Fuggles behind its minty, grassy, and woody flavours blending with the dark roasted chocolate malts, East Kent Goldings lending a sweet and slightly spicy or floral touch, Challenger behind its bittering qualities and mild cedar-like spiciness, and Northdown behind a background bitterness with piney hints. A dry fruity bitterness prevailing before its passage out. The odd bubble lasting to the end. Served in good nick with lasting conditioning.
