Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingAcceptable22 Jan 2026 4th night on for this Birling-brewed American Pale Ale from north of West Malling in Kent and retaining some head and lacing. A fruity first hit. A fruit-infused dry hoppiness emerging from its double measure of modern US hop varieties, lending it grapefruit and bitter citrus touches. A fruity hoppiness running riot on my taste buds. Not quite my cup of tea and so only a half sufficed. It has been brewed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original Prohibition at 4.8% and packed with twice the hops and at the higher gravity of 6.8%.

Philip PirripGood20 Jan 2026 I did not detect the promised "double the hoppiness"

Philip PirripGood24 Dec 2025 Good condition but did not live up to the tasting notes allegation of double the hoppiness
Philip PirripAcceptable08 Dec 2025 Tolerable
Philip PirripAcceptable07 Dec 2025 Disappointing - I would expect more of a 10th anniversary ale. Just a sourish citrus brew and definitely not the promised "double the hoppiness"
Hogan SamplingGood07 Dec 2025 This extra strong Kent Prohibition American Pale Ale from north of West Malling marked this Birling-based brewery's 10th year for brewing this ale. Very good head and lacing presented and lasting. It was billed to have double the hoppiness. Not sure that it was any more hoppy than the usual strength Prohibition at 4.8% but it was certainly more fruity in its first bite. A hoppiness gently rising from some of the latest US hops involved. Dried citrus fruits pervading alongside hints of pine, resin and spice. Rather overly fruited for me I decided as it made its downwards exit.
