Mid evening and fairly busy, friendly welcome from staff and customers - a chap was just leaving and kindly offered the table to us which was greatly appreciated. My first visit here, has not been on my "to do list" down to the daft name of the place however owing to the popularity amongst many of the scribes on this site, plus its convenient location to the Italian restaurant we were on our way to I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and glad I did. Calm relaxed civilised and friendly atmosphere worlds apart from the Ravensgate we'd just been to.

Mid evening disappointment following on from there being no cask at the Ravensgate Arms. Winter hours here means 7pm close. Odd as all other pubs in the vicinity had reasonable patronage. Off to the next one ......

Micropub opened on Good Friday 2013 on the site of the Hovelling Boat pub which closed in 1909 (and re-opened 104 years later). No lager or keg beers are sold here. Other past lives of the building have been as a florist's shop and a fancy gift shop. A menu of the beer and cider on offer is shown on a wall blackboard then your drink is fetched (with table service) from a back room having been served on gravity dispense there. Under new ownership in spring 2018.
