| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 13 Dec 2025 | Very good head and lacing, and lasting all the way, on this brown and amber ale which came originally from Wychwood Brewery in Witney, north-west of Oxford. Wychwood is now owned by Carlsberg Britvic. Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company closed Wychwood Brewery in November 2023 and Wychwood's ales are now brewed at Marston's Brewery in Burton-upon-Trent. A spicy, fruited first bite. A gentle bitterness rising with a good sprinkling of cinnamon, in amongst the malted barley and hops, tantalising my taste buds. Its Maris Otter barley giving it a sweet-honeyed flavouring that you would expect in mince pies, Christmas pudding and Christmas cake. A dry bitterness still managing to pervade alongside its malty note or two sliding down my chimney. |
