| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 31 Jan 2026 | 3rd beer of this visit: A very creamy top with lacing sticking resolutely to the glass on this North Yorkshire-brewed stout from Snainton, south-west of Scarborough, and labelled as toasted marshmallow. A dark chocolatey sweetish first bite. A moreishly smoky dry bitterness rising from its traditional English hops such as Bramling Cross giving hints of dark berries and English Goldings for a bitter kick. Chocolate biscuit flavours leaping up with hints of toasted marshmallow tantalising my taste buds. A maltiness* cycling up with a dry and ever so vanilla-tinged chocolatey descent. *Likely to have a mix of malts including roasted to give it, its chocolatey flavouring, Crystal or Caramel malts to add sweetness, and oats to provide a smooth velvety texture from its protein and beta-glucan content of the beer coating the mouth. |
