Hogan SamplingGood31 Jan 2026 Very good head and lacing and sticking to the glass to the end on this Dorset-brewed Hall & Woodhouse malty amber ale from Blandford St Mary, just outside the town of Blandford Forum and within a 20-mile radius of Shaftesbury, Dorchester and Poole. A lightly fruited first hit. A dry hoppy bitterness leaping up with a biscuity taste. A tail-wag of a hoppy fruity note lingering from its hops, Celeia and Cascade, the latter an American hop known for imparting distinctive citrus, particularly grapefruit, and Centennial, another American hop and contributing to its lemony, floral smell and flavourings. Certainly, subtle floral and lemon touches on my palate before bounding downwards. It is so-named after a local legend about a real, mischievous ferret which used to sneak into an inn to drink the beer.
