| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 20 Jun 2026 | 1st beer of this visit: Came with very good head and lasting lacing on this English Pale Ale from Brewery Fields in Great Baddow, near Chelmsford, Essex, and operating on historic brewing grounds near the former 18th-century Baddow Brewery and incorporated in October 2016. A dry hoppy first hit. A lightly fruited hoppiness rising from its US Simcoe, behind its pine, resin and earthy flavours with a punchy bitterness winning over, and US Citra, behind its citrus notes such as of grapefruit and lime and the odd mildly sweet tropical fruit. A gentle maltiness winning over and lingering from its base of traditional English floor-malted grains such as Maris Otter to aid its sweetness. Served in good nick with lasting head retention. |
