| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 19 Sep 2026 | 2nd beer of the visit: Freshly tapped and served moments after with a foaming, lively head and lacing. A very dry oily first bite with a floral, earthy touch. A gentle juicy hoppiness rising from the brew’s freshly harvested, un-kilned and so green, local Kent hops and historically featuring East Kent Goldings or similar local varieties. These hops are picked from the bines and rushed back to the copper within just a few hours of being harvested. The hops' oiliness rising up from not having the time to dry out and so pleasing my taste buddies profusely. Very moreish indeed were those green hops. A sweet honey infusion, too, for me but with its pale malt base intentionally kept subtle so as not to overpower the vibrant, delicate oils of the fresh harvest. A lingering hoppy bitterness that was proving highly quaffable. Served in top nick as tasted and passed by the head brewer, Eddie Gadd, before its serving to the busy gathering of real ale devotees inside and outside Gadds’ taproom. |
