Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

McGargleGood04 May 2010 Much improved from previous night. Sulphury hints replaced by yeasty and floral notes. Absolute contrast in styles to Nechtan but still enjoyable.
McGargleAcceptable03 May 2010 Could have been vented for a day longer. Good southern boys bitter with sulphurous hints and some traditional hop bite.

The Thomas Ingoldsby, Canterbury, Kent

AndrewGood16 Apr 2010 Well I never thought I'd enter a rating for this beer. Okay... it had very little aroma (unlike my memories of the original) with perhaps just a whiff of yeast. The body was a bit watery (I'm sure the original had a bit more malt to the structure). It did have that distinctive nuttiness and heathery hop of Fremlins and the finish had that tell tale heather-hop Fremlins bite. The real question is would I have had another if I'd have had time? Yes I would.

IanGood11 Apr 2010 Copper lasting beige head. Yeasty flowery aroma, yes I would say it tastes like Fremlins, Decent yeasty session bitter.
ChrisEGood11 Apr 2010 Yeasty aroma, and some resemblance to the old Fremlins taste. It is considerably better than the beer that came out of Cheltenham before Fremlins was discontinued by Whitbread.

The Hope Tap, Reading, Berkshire

Martin the MildmanGood10 Apr 2010 Reminded me of the Cheltenham (Flowers) brewed version, but better. Good tangy hop taste from the Styrians and good balance and depth of flaovur for its strength. A good effort from Shep's. My score 15/20.

AlenomoreGood08 Apr 2010 Another reincarnation of an old ale. Session type. I didn't drink real ale when this was last brewed in 1990 by the defunct Fremlins, so can't pass judgement on whether it is better or worse than the original?
