My first visit to this lovely little pub. We filled our brief time looking at all the prints and photos on the walls of the back room.
Bowland - White Star Pale Ale | 4.00 | | A pale beer with a rather in-your-face grapefruity-hoppy hit. |

Liverpool Organic - Higsons Best Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried

We had to walk through a boisterous series of streets that had echoes of a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. The White Star was a nice pub and we sat in the back room and enjoyed the buzz.

Compared to previous visits this place was heaving with people and the music was way to loud.
Bowland - Hunters Moon | 3.70 | | Darkish, think it a mild, a bit of chocolate and toffee, nice finish |
Bowland - Daylight Robbery | 3.90 | | pale gold, little aroma, some fruit and a little sweetness, nice enough. |

Nice pub with that well worn look, loads of interesting stuff to look at, friendly locals
Bowland - Sawley Tempted | 3.70 | | Nice gold beer, some hops, a bit sweet. |
Bowland - Nicky Nook | 4.20 | | Very similar to the Sawley Tempted but less sweet and a bit more malt. |

Classic, wonderful pub. The rear room in particular is great with red leather bench seating. Could spend half and hour just looking at the photos and prints on the walls alone.
Northumberland - Bucking Fastard | 4.00 | | Copper colour with lasting beige head. Some decent fruit salad fruit aroma and in mouth. Nice hop on finish too. Maybe a little sweeter and fruit is rounder than the Cranky Flannen I had before this. Both have excellent citrus hops. Sweetish grapefruit finish. Sweet orange fruit in mouth. A rather good hoppy bitter. |
Northumberland - Cranky Flannen | 4.00 | | Gold colour with lasting beige head. Attractive sherberty hop aroma. Very good citrusy orange fruit in mouth. Spritzy hop citrus finish. A beer right up my alley tastewise. Citrus spritzy sherbert hop on end keeps delivering, especially the bit of orange zest. |
Bowland - Shamrock Porter | 4.20 | | Very deep rich brown colour with bubbly thin tan head. Some roasted malts, some hint of sourness, bit of juicy malt. Fruits are juicy raisins. Had worse beers. Bit watery maybe. Decent roasted malt and hop finish. Fruity and light porter. Hop finish is puckering and excellent. |
Cains - Finest Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
Marston's - Bass | 4.40 | Not Tried

Sited near the popular Mathew Street area of Liverpool, this has a wonderful interior focussing on the White Star shipping line. As I entered there seemed to be a friendly argument going on about the finer points of 1942-1943 WWII and its depiction in Hollywood, especially regarding Edward Woodward. Lovely central bar. Dark wood and nice red leather seats. There is also a quieter rear room.
Bowland - White Star Pale Ale | 4.00 | | Golden, thin white head. Lovely citric hop, astringent aroma. OK in mouth. Lots of pale grapefruit. Very good dry finish. Lots of good grapefruit. Malts go a bit missing in the middle |
Bowland - Sawley Tempted | 3.70 | | Golden, thin white head. Good citrus aroma, bit dusy. Bit odd flavour, hops don’t entirely work. Very harsh hop finish. Staleish malts. |
Bowland - Chipping Steamer | 3.90 | | Golden, disappearing white head. Sweaty socks hop aroma, juicy malt, slightly sickly, hop finish. Not a big fan of this. Hop is too sickly |
Bowland - Gold | 3.80 | Not Tried
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
Marston's - Bass | 4.40 | Not Tried
