12:50 The group of 14 met up here after half had gone to the Hope and the other half had more beer in the Fox. Purpose of the visit was to check CAMRA RI potential. Enough old fittings to propose "RI Try also".

17:30 First visit even though I used to work 100yds away. Liked it a lot, good standard London boozer. Steady trade.

I’m here for a CAMRA Branch Meeting that goes on until late. At confession time, I own up to my many recent sins with bottle and keg, and as punishment I am appointed Social Secretary – a big burden to carry.

The pub is found in Smithfield, Central London, EC1M 6EB.
This little pub has been around since at least the 1870s, at which time it was owned by the neighbouring Charterhouse Hospital. In fact, external signage on the pub itself suggests an earlier date of 1611. Owned by Greene King for a spell in the 1990s it was then operated by a small, independent pub company. Now knocked through into a single room, this is pretty much a stand-up, after work sort of place. Function room available upstairs. Bought by Fuller's in 2015.
