Morning visit. The steps down from the railway station are closed so I had to walk the long way round. Leeds is much more expensive than it used to be in my youth. The pub was quiet when I arrived but was filling up nicely by the time that I left. Enthusiastic bar staff.

Although only about 20m from the Leeds Brewery Tavern as the crow flies, it's about a 10 minute walk around the houses to get to the Scarborough Hotel. I've actually been here before but I didn't realise it until the next day. Big old boozer with a lived in feel to it.

Handy for the train station, can get packed at office chucking out time. Food served, small beer festivals with The Grove on occasion.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cairngorm - Nessie's Monster Mash (superseded by 4.1% version)4.40GoodIn ok condition, this ruby-red beer has a decent malt profile and a slight warmth on the way down. Worth a try.

After my seminar finished around lunchtime, I had half an hour before my train went back to King's Cross, so I stopped off here and at the Wetherspoons in the station.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Batemans - Falling Leaves4.20AcceptableMahogany, slight haze, bit earthy, muddy. But malt and fruit are fine. OK.

It really is ridiculously close to Leeds railway station and only a 5 minute walk from Bewley's Hotel which I seem to end up staying at when I have to visit Leeds for work. I was even called "Sir" at the bar. This is Yorkshire!!! yep still a great interior and exterior, good location, but maybe I've had better beer selections before.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Coach House - Blueberry Classic Bitter5.00PoorGold, thin off white head from the sparkler. Blueberry fruit hits you up front. Not sure the mix of obvious fruit and a bitter works, like the Westerham kriek. You can't mix sweet fruit and bitter. It's like your mouth wants to go in 2 opposite directions at the same time. Good bluberry aroma and an ok bitter underneath, but the 2 just don't meld well. Not even as good as a Belgian fruit lambic.

Around 10 in the evening when we got here. I was in Leeds on work, but persuaded my colleagues to stop off here on the way back to our hotel. Friendly staff and good beer in good condition. Beers on handpull are displayed on a blackboard behind the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cottage - Goldrush5.00GoodNice US style hops on this golden bitter.
Eastwood & Sanders - Born To Be Mild3.70GoodDeep ruby with lasting beige head. Really nice mild, plenty of choc/coffee malt, choc/coffee on aroma. Bit fo bite on end. Dry roasted malt is suberb. Good flavour for its strength.
Rudgate - Viking Bitter (superseded by 3.8% version)3.90GoodOh what a wonderful evening. Real beer in a northern city. Gold/copper with lasting white head. Golden hoppy session bitter. Earthy hop, drinkable, subtle bitterness. Bit like Youngs Ordinary. Enough to keep you interested especially on the finish. Citric hop. Good beer.
Eastwood & Sanders - Anniversary Ale4.10AcceptableGood to have E&S beers in the heart of Leeds. Gold colour with lasting white head. Sweaty sox hop aroma and flavour. Some citric hop, bit of tea flavour. Smooth, creamy in mouth, but probably as an affect of the sparkler. Got quite a good bite on the end. Bit like Deuchars IPA. Fine. Finish is nice.

2004 and 2005 CAMRA local branch Pub of the Year. Conveniently sited near the railway station, this curved shaped building has interesting tiling on the outside. The longish bar serves an ever changing list of real ales. There is plenty of seating and an area near the fire with leather sofas and seats. A solid pub to go to if in Leeds. Commonly known as the Scarbrough Taps.

We have visited this pub 10 times, seen 32 different beers and tried 12 of them.
