Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

The John Fairweather, Cambuslang, Glasgow, City of

Stephen HarrisGood15 Jul 2019 Less memorable than my lunch, but I have written down 'good'.

Jack WilliamGood02 Aug 2018 I’d heard this was back this year and so pleased to see it. Was very pleasant but I’m not sure that it had the same hoppy bite that used to draw crowds to the New Mogul in Dover to “kill the dwarf” sessions.

The Bridge End Inn, Ruabon, Denbighshire

Bear & Ragged StaffGood07 Nov 2011 Not a great fan of wheat beers but this is one of the better ones. Pleasantly light and refreshing but you will know what I mean when I say 'typically Oakham'.

BlairExcellent05 Feb 2011 Fruity, hoppy and incredibly drinkable. I've only ever had this in winter but I imagine it's close to the perfect summer beer.

BlairExcellent14 Nov 2009 Hoppy with lots of citrus, not as 'wheaty' as I was expecting, but a lovely beer.

Planet Thanet Easter Beer Festival 2010, Margate, Kent

IanExcellent02 Apr 2010 I hardly get to drink this anymore which is a shame as it is one of my favourites, great body over a wheat/golden ale with plenty of citrus yellow grapefruit fruit.

The Criterion, Leicester, Leicestershire

The Archibald Simpson, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire

McGargleExcellent19 Jun 2009 Initial 'what's that?' bitterness which quickly mellows to a more fruity mix and a long, dry finish. Body that you'd expect from a wheat beer. £1.65.

The New Crown, Southgate, Greater London

IanAcceptable15 Mar 2009 I was so looking forward to this, but as Tom said, even when he had it from several casks fresh, it just wasn't quite there. A bit soapy.

DubbelGood22 Nov 2008 First pint from the barrel. Clear, clean and crisp with a sharp lemon bite. Less inspiring for me than most of the Oakham range.

The Duke of Cumberland, Barham, Kent

MickExcellent01 Aug 2008 Very pale, crisp and hoppy, would never guess it was a wheat beer, very nice with a good dry finish.

Kent Beer Festival 2008, Canterbury, Kent

IanExcellent17 Jul 2008 One of the best beers in Britain, great condition. Slightly soapy maybe, but I'm being picky.

Ealing Beer Festival 2008 - Beer on Broadway, Ealing, Greater London

IanExcellent02 Jul 2008 Awesome, so hoppy. Sherbert. It's great.

Great British Beer Festival 2007, Earl's Court, Central London

IanExcellent11 Aug 2007 As per usual.

The County Hotel, Ashford, Kent

IanExcellent25 Jul 2007 Brilliant. Good condition, good flavours. Lovely. Citrus, hoppy, grapefruity, creamy, full and utterly drinkable. Did I mention the hops?

Ealing Beer Festival 2007 - Beer on Broadway, Ealing, Greater London

IanExcellent16 May 2007 Very good condition, tad farty on aroma.

Planet Thanet Easter Beer Festival 2007, Margate, Kent

IanExceptional07 Apr 2007 Like the previous day, I started and finished with this and was for me the beer of the festival.
IanExceptional06 Apr 2007 I had this as my first and last beer on both days and it was as good each time. The fruit, mouthfeel, hop finish that goes on and on were all exceptional.

The Thomas Ingoldsby, Canterbury, Kent

IanGood26 Aug 2006 Almost wonderful. Very pale gold colour. Good hop aroma. Some cereal in mouth. Excellent hop finish. Citrus fruit and hop are good and juicy, but just slightly soapy.

Rare Breeds Beer Festival 2006, Woodchurch, Kent

IanExceptional02 Jun 2006 Pale gold with lasting white head. Cereal flavour in mouth, alpha acids hop finish. Fantastic tangerine and grapefruit flavours. When I came back the next day, the blokes on the same table as me all agreed that this was the best beer they tried at the festival.

Great British Beer Festival 2005, Olympia, Greater London

IanExceptional04 Aug 2005 See notes on JHB

Kent Beer Festival 2005, Canterbury, Kent

IanExceptional22 Jul 2005 Whilst the JHB went off the boil, this was still a cracking pint
IanExceptional21 Jul 2005 Found it hard to say which is better, JHB or this. Lemon nose very tangy in mouth good acids. Excellent long dry lemony finish

Oakham White Dwarf

4.30% ABV.

Piercing bitterness in this 'brite'English style wheat beer which mellows to reveal fruit overtones amidst a dry as a bone finish. This is a real thirst quencher.

We have tried this beer 30 times.

We have given this beer an average score of Good to Excellent.
