Early evening visit. Pub fairly quiet. There is an weekend of Indian street food being served here. It looks and smells really good, but it’s just a bit too early in the evening for me. Wish I had lingered and taken part.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Blue Skies IPA6.00ExcellentGolden. Obvious strength. Very tasty.
Purity - XPA - Xtra Hoppy Pale Ale3.50GoodSo far as I could see, there was nothing on the pump-clip to identify this as a Purity beer. Nevertheless, rather good. Very pale and bitter.

Nice proper old boozer with friendly staff. I sat at a table for 2 on my own and flicked through the 2011 Good Beer Guide. Conversation at the bar ranged from the benzene ring to Spike Milligan.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Good mixed crowd in for the Oakham Ales showcase, despite the swollen crowd at the Beer Festival. Swift, friendly service and stupendously large fresh beer battered haddock, chips and proper mushy peas for £5. The most consistently well conditioned ale in the city.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Asylum4.50ExceptionalOustanding. Clean, clear, bright and fruity with just the right bitterness carried on the lemon hop finish.
Oakham - Oblivion5.70ExcellentStrong and powerful copper ale with plum and greengage fruit notes.
